Does anyone else get grumpy when they can't ride for whatever reason?

We always ride Wednesday nights with some friends, but tonight (to cut a long story short, as they say) Notax was held up at work regrettably with the only car we can actually fit the bikes in :? It's always a rush to get ready but having dashed in from work, grabbed a bowl of porridge (I know...), got the camelbaks out, got changed blah blah, i'm really gutted that I now can't go. It's weird but I only really realise how much I look forward to going, when I suddenly can't!

I know I could ride up the road, go for a run, to the gym etc, but it's not really the same is it? Am settling for a glass of wine and feeling grumpy instead!

So, anyone else suffer from 'not-MTBing-itis'?!!

I do get like that, but I commute by bike, so always get a regular top up in between a proper hit of MTBing!

I ride so often and it is so accessible (on my door step) that I cannot imagine never being in that position.

Been having a severe dose of manflu for the last 3 weeks. Only managed 2 rides in that time total mileage 27 miles. I am starting to bite the furniture, if I dont get out this saturday I will have to start killing people. I reckon a high powered hunting rifle, a tall building and a crowd of people should do the trick.

    Pretty much!

I'm currently pretty restless, having not ridden since Sunday and just built a bike that I won't be able to ride until the coming Sunday! (Though probably will get out on the XC bike on saturday).

I did'nt realise how much untill i was off the bike for 6 weeks last year when i broke my clavicle and dislocated my shoulder, and broke the thumb on my other hand,,
i did get some kind of fix though by hiking up into the quarry and filming,, practicing to use my equipment for my hols...

but it was'nt the same as actually being on the bike...

no mtb = grumpy. My roadie for commuting doesn't scratch the itch. Unfortunately I can see the hills I love to ride from pretty much everywhere, my house, on my way to work, at work. Leads to much wistful gazing out of windows and not much work.
I find I start going through sections in my head, you can hold your keyboard like handle bars - should I share that?!?!
  • Working 10 hour shifts and it being dark by the time I finish work makes me grumpy, and with nowhere nearby worth buying lights for... that makes me grumpy. Oh and the fact that some weekends I have to be on call which means I can't go and enjoy myself in the hills/forests somewhere cos there is no phone signal.

Glad it's not just me then!!

It ended up being a very unproductive non-MTBing evening - but I did buy a shiny new Chris King headset for my Santa Cruz build to cheer myself up :lol:

I get very grumpy when I'm stuck down in London at uni. Even if I had the bike down here I tend to have to spend most of the time actually doing work (yes I know it's weird... work and student  ) and don't have the time to head out anywhere to ride properly.

On top of that I have no room to keep a bike down here. It makes me very very grumpy :(

I wouldn't even call myself a mountain biker but I'm getting sucked in and not getting over the chase is making me grumpy. I was out at 6.15 this morning so I could get an hour or so in before catching the train to brum for work. It was pretty much light, only needed lights in the wooded bits early on.

It does help that the chase is less than 2 minutes ride from my front door 8)

I get a lot grumpier if I can't exercise but if I need to, my road commuting keeps me just about sane.

I've not been able to ride for nearly 6 weeks (apart from 10 mins tetsing bikes in a car park this week) due to recovery from surgery, so imagine how grumpy I have been
Hoping to get the all clear from the surgeon next week, fingers crossed!

    +1

Will always choose MTB'ing if there's a choice but sometimes it's so easy to just jump on the roadie bike and pedal about for a bit. Damn sight better thsn no riding at all.

only been riding since dec and been cannock at least once a week since or various other places,, i'm gagging by midweek!!!!
  • Don't feel grumpy about it but no exercise = lack of endorphins = lack of thinking power, I think a lot when I go running, even more so when cycling, so much so, that I carry a very small jotter pad and pencil in my backpack now to note down good ideas I might forget later. The scenery helps you to think too, staying in and vegetating is bad.

I'm hearin ya Mojo_666 - in fact a couple of days last season the bike was out of action (while I replaced fork/headset) so I couldn't ride and it was quite a relief!! :D

It's your body's reaction to a lack of endorphins and a lack of adrenaline (both of which I am happily addicted to due to mtb'ing!) :D
