hi all,
after thew exmoor beast my weekly milage dropped right off, I just did bits and bobs from then through to about end of jan/early feb. I signed up for the cheshire cat to motivate me to get fit again and started increasing my milage from the first week in feb. I really didn'r do much in jan about 250miles in the whole month. the in feb weekly miles have been 135, 130, 140, 190. It doesn't feel like too much to soon doing this, and I try and have 2 days a week with no cycling. but in the last 3 weeks I have had 2 colds/flu, the first one lasted about 4 days and was man/flu type head cold, and then yesterday I did a long steady 88miles in the cold rain, i got home, felt weird all afternoon, then had a terrible fever all night.... I'm currently lying in bed feelning very sorry for myself with terrible aches and pains....
I know there's loads of bugs going around, but I haven't had a sniffle for about a year.. I'm in a hurry to develop my fittness, I thought I could bring my legs/lung back on line in about 6-7weeks, but maybe not?? any advice??
cheers, O

I think your first bout was just a cold - we all get them from to time.
The second? Well FWIW I had something similar about 4 weeks ago. I've been riding about 150-200 miles per week for last 18 months incl thru winter. Did one particularly aggressive hill repeats session of about 90 mins (with warm up and down) giving it the full beans and ended up aching with flu like symptoms (including bed sweats) for 3 days.
After that my fitness and ride times improved dramatically. Not sure what happened but I just assumed I'd broken through a training barrier and felt better for it.
Just give it time. When I took up serious training again in 2010 it took my body about two months to start adapting to the training load - felt fairly k...........d up to that point - and still do sometimes if I increase intensity heavily in a 4 week training cycle.0
