Powertap Watts on PC without Trainer Road?

Hi
As some may know "trainer road" offers a service to show Watts etc on screen of laptop or PC live from any ANT+ powermeter. I have powertap. Its $10 a month which I think is too much unless you need their training programmes. However I only want to the option to show data on screen (basically what is normally on Joule or Garmin) but on screen. Is there any easy way to do this. Will poweragent show data live? I have an ANT+ usb stick on the PC (Garmin do one, Sunnto do one).
Has anyone found a way?
Thanks
Alex

Golden Cheetah version 3, which can be found here: http://goldencheetah.stand2surf.net/. Make sure you get V3.0

GC Realtime view (version 3 development build best as it has native ant+ support) will allow you to do this.

That is the development site and make sure you chose version 3.0 -
If you've got a Garmin then what is there to gain from having the same information on a big screen? I've used the realtime stuff in Golden Cheetah a couple of times, but given the extra phaff I usually don't bother.More problems but still living....0

Golden Cheetah alows you to do it easily enough in V3.
It has the advantage that you can create workouts and show a graph of the power outputs over time, that you can see, follow and see your progress plotted against. You can also watch a video in part of the screen and training videos like Sufferfest have power profiles you can download and follow.
Its a bit of faff if you're just doing a 2x20 or something but can help with a more complex workout or for something to distract you if you struggle with motivation. I have a continual bug in mine though where HR levels freeze after a few mins and it just shows the same number for the rest of the session. I also notice a slight lag in power numbers displaying on GC, of about 1-2 seconds. Otherwise its quite helpful.Your Past is Not Your Potential...0 -

Does this just happen wth GC or with Garmin too? When my Garmin HRM strap went wrong it used to work ok for a few minutes and then freeze as you describe. It might be tha strap that's faulty. Mine was replaced by Garmin under warranty.0 -
