I will have those Reba RLTs stripped and hopefully converted to 120mm by monday if you're still interested - don't push the Merlin button just yet!

    M665 SLX disc brakes 160/160 http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... KE-SET.htm

    or

    Elixir 5 185/160 in black
    http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... r_1946.htm

Would I need a conversion bracket for the Elixir to fit post mount ?

Looks like the elixr is complete, so no extras needed.

What sort of riding and where? Yes £30 ea will get you decent tyres, but which ones are very usage dependant!

Shimano brakes are a doddle to bleed - no special kit required. Worth taking into account.

I'm just after a general all round good(ish) trail tyres, something with good grip in the dry and damp (I'll be at home if it's too wet  ) and I'm not sure what sort of width I need to be looking at, I don't want tractor tyres !
  • pick out something here;

    Some good deals there.

I can vouch for Nobby Nic (F)/Racing Ralph (R) combo for dry conditions. both in 2.25 - The RR can handle damp days OK but it's not great in the wet and probably as useful as a chocolate teapot in the mud!

    Hi,

I've decided I want 120mm Reba's in white with a 15mm axle but RL's are £75 cheaper than the RLT's, is it work the saving ?

    Thanks.

Id say no. The Turnkey is just a blowoff for the lock out. Realistically are you gonna ride locked out off road alot? No is probably the answer.

Panaracer Fire XC pro are a good compromise tyre, reasonable grip in mud through to good grip and reasonably fast rolling in the dry, wired can be had quite cheap but folders can be pricey.

Cheapest folders after a quick look

    Hi,

I've been looking at those on merlin but are 2.1's wide enough ?

Why would they not be? 2.1's are perfectly good for most riding, if your pushing a bike hard downhill you may need wider, but tyres are like make-up on a genuinely fit girl, less is most often more.....

Both are good choices, not tried an RR, I prefer the feel of the Fire XC's to the NN's my daughter has, she prefers the NN's.....I find the NN's feel a bit 'soft' in responce, the Fire XC's much sharper.

Tyres ordered, gone for the Panaracers.

I'm going for Hope hubs and headset but what colour ? At the moment it mostly black, white with the Orange frame. Do I go black headset and blue hubs to match the reba lockout dial ?

LOL, all looks brown once it's muddy! Personally I'd stick with black.

Do I go single or double up front ? I've got an SLX front mech but think I'd need a different mech for a double ?

What's my options for a single up front ?

    Double I'm looking at the XT http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... FCM785.htm
