As an overweight 49 year old it is currently 48bpm.

When I was doing triathlon training in my mid 20s, it was around 33bpm.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

That's lower than Armstrong's when he was competing?

And a lot lower than a load of pro riders who were taking EPO by the bucket load?

It was before Armstrong, or Indurain so I didn't have that benchmark.
It actually concerned me to the point where I went to the doctors as I wasn't aware that a low pulse could be a good thing.
Oh, and no EPO. The only drug I used around that time was alcohol. Caffine too now but that won't help if you are looking for a low rate.

Coincidentely :?: I did suffer from asthma in my younger years.
I also have high blood pressure. Maybe that is just to compensate for the low rate.
I was as stunned to find out that I had high blood pressure (192/146 peak, now 144/84 on meds) last year as I was when I found out my low pulse rate 25 years ago.
Question is - Am I chilled because of my low rate, or volatile because of my pressure?

Varies from 50-70 but can be lower or higher just depends on how wired I am.

when I was younger and had a heart moniter, one stony mtb climb could get me to 200+ but that is 20 years ago now.

~55 resting, max as experienced on a race training day in November is 191  Recovery isn't too bad but not measured the rate of decay, assuming that's something a) makes sense and b) tells you something about your fitness level. Might be interesting to dig out a trace and have a look.
When I'm on the turbo and finished my exercise I pedal slowly and/or backwards until my pulse is less than120. Usually takes about 2 minutes to get down to that.
Last time I used my HRM to check my pulse at work it hovered around 50. I started my lunch before reading this thread so my pulse will be higher at the moment.

It was a concern of mine, but Dr Google suggests it is only a problem if it has side effects dizzy etc, and when my Doc took my bp she looked at first concerned but then said out loud (I think she meant to keep it to herself) oh you were once very fit. This pre-dated my return to cycling and when my username was more appropriate.

But if you were to ask me I would rate my fitness 6/10

Mrs WBW just back from a trip to the sales with my flexible friend. One look at "how much money she had saved me", certainly pushed my heart rate up. Think I might be suffering from Barclaycardia.
Nobody told me we had a communication problem

If you have lower than 40 you will set off most hospital equipment if connected. Normally 50-65 depending on what's just occured... No not that - then it's in the 100's :D

My 38 bpm measurement drew concerned looks from the nurse, a retest, testing again manually and then she asked if I was an athlete.

My flies were already undone. I didn't even realise you could use 'down there' as a pulse point!

Really? I thought you were younger than that. Does your age change away from the PC? I think I've noticed it increasing when entering RP for a couple of laps  ;)

Definitely feel like 44 on the bike at the moment, especially around the park - but its only temporary (I hope). Heading of to resurrect the lappage thread.

Sitting at my desk mine is 55.
  • Sitting at my desk after 3 cups of coffee and a slightly stressful morning - 54bpm. Slouched in front of TV, semi-comatose, the lowest I've seen is 44bpm

It would seem to me that the average of us lot on here is below that of the average person.

Who'd have thunk that a bunch of cyclists have a lower heart rate than average?
