KNEE PAIN ...the old favourite

i have just returned to mountan biking after a few years off ( been road riding since giving up MTB )
all is good and enjoying the shorter but more intense training it provides however i am suffering with knee pain , only my left knee and it is on the outside.
now it does not take a rocket scientist to decipher i have moved from LOOK Keo to shimano SPD for my MTB and obviously this is the cause ??? or is it ... i have experimented with the saddle height and fore/aft adjustment and adjusted the cleat but still get a twinge and also now when off the bike.
dont think it is IT Band seems to be left of knee cap and slightly around the back, ok when leg straight worse when i bend fully.
i guess the response will be, get a proper bike fit , well yes sensible but was trying to avoid a thought by a process of elimination i could identify the cause.
anyway any thoughts / suggestions would be appreciated
cheers

google something about 'cleat positioning.. knee pain... blah blah etc etc' and i'm sure you'll find something relevant
if its on the outside of your knee its just incorrect cleat positioning -> so google the above and find a website that will tell you which way to move them.0 -
