@007iron,
great looking 'dale you've got there, which model/year is it?
deserves it's own thread (if you have'nt already posted one).
@cubecrazy,
i know what you mean about about rigid forks, i'll never go back to suspension forks, there's no need to with the type of riding i do.
i suppose if you spend big money on some high end sus forks, they would improve the ride enormously, but i cant justify spending 400/500 quid on a set of forks!
the lower end sus forks that came on my r/hopper were just heavy and 'soggy' feeling, and hindered the ride rather than improve it- hence my switch to rigid.
i think manufacturers should spec rigid forks on their 'entry level' models, which would mean they could maybe upgrade other areas of the bike.
i.e. instead of sus fork/deore drivetrain, they could spec rigid forks and slx mechs or shifters for example.
just a thought!0 -
Totally agree Phil.
I read an article about some £700 forks and basically they were shite, and it said even if they was set up correctly they would be sub par, which got me thinking well if a new set of 700 quid forks dont cut it, I got no chance of getting a nice new pair.
Then I started thinkin about how heavy my bike was on the front end which then lead me to rigids.
My forks were 2.5kg of lard my new carbon jobbies are 340 grammes 8)
I saw a bloke at the pines on a full sus cube, he was givin it the beans but goin no where.
When I read up on rigids it said some experienced cyclists refer to it as a purists ride, why let suspension have all the fun, that takes away from the ride not adds to it.
So yeah am fully converted to a rigid rider now, damn that sounds gay as ya like
I agree about that Dale n all, I wanna know more about it, year, spec etc, I love the straight line of the bike from headtube to rear wheel, very nice indeed, set of rigids on it and it would be perfect

the rockhopper is the 2010 model, in the uk they were available in a red + white colour scheme, or the black with grey decals that i chose.
the forks are 'exotic' rigid aluminium, from carboncycles.cc
size 44.5 cm axle to crown.
I cant seem to find your frame anywhere. is it a comp, expert etc ?
@vim147- there's one on ebay.co.uk now (24-01-12), 19" black/grey, in lancashire.
sounds good from the description (hardly used).
Not sure what size i really need. am 5'7 with 31 inch leg. i want a bike by summer. either rockhopper or cube. as long as its a black finish.0 -
vim147 wrote:have you got a link for the forks you fitted ?
Sure here ya go mate :

I was going to buy these at £175 too and while I was saving they came down to £99 8)
I been looking at other more expensive forks like Richey Carbon and those are like 600+g and cost 500 quid  these from Kingdom are 340g and £99 8)
Went out again last night XC, pitch black through the woods, you forget your riding rigid most of the time, love it0 -

Nice. Think am gonna clone your bike but without too much redness. need to find a good deal on a used cube or rockhopper bike first.0 -
lol ... thats the beauty of being individual, if we all had the same tastes we'd all be on the same bikes and life would be bland as ya like.
Go for it mate, create someing truly unique, just remember to fire up the pics when ya done 8)0 -

Still trying to decide on which cube i'd go for. Analog, Attention, Ltd all seem to be going for the same kinda prices on Ebay (used). Sat on them at my LBS and all seemed the same to me.
getting a cube ltd pro and swapping the forks for a carbon rigid makes the weight go down to 11kg.
does your carbon forks look too skinny on your bike or is it around the same thickness as the frame tubes ?0 -
All the rigid cube frames are very similar so it dont really make much difference which one you get, neither will add or detract in such a way as you would notice anyway so I would go for the best condition one.
Carbon forks are way more beefy than the Suntour XCM forks I had on before, defo not skinny, these are not like racer carbon forks these are specifically for mountain bikes.0 -
Hey guys.
Last update of my bike in this state, after today she will no longer look like this ....
Because ... tomorrow these bad boys are going on 8)

Crank Brothers Cobalt XC Race Wheelset 2010: 6061-T6 Aluminium. 688g F / 852g R
I got a good deal on a second hand set with new hubs, thing is my current wheels dont really feel that heavy to me so I aint sure what difference these will actually make to riding or weight reduction, I bought them for the look more than anything but if there are any other benefits to be had that would be a bonus0 -
Go Cubecrazy!! They`re a nice set of wheels on a great looking bike, those forks for that price are tempting me for my black LTDMy 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930

Howdy folks
Updating me post with the addition of me new wheels, which look great but I got a lateral wobble on the front hub, god knows what it is, bearings perhaps ? I hope its not gonna be a big spend.
Today I installed me SRAM PG990 Cassette and I got the PC991 chain to go on later tonight, once I researched how to install one
Here she is 8)
Still cant run it damn loose hub, cant wait to though
P.S. Lee I do recommend the forks mate such a huge weight saving and I I dont miss the soggy sus at all0 -

RevellRider wrote:For the love of god, please take those alloy bolts from your brakes and stem. The damage and pain it'll cause when they fail really isn't worth it.
Brakes should be fine, but +1 on stem...
Other than that, I love that bike!0 -
Thanks guys
I hear you about the bolts, but I have torqued them all up to 7nm with lockthread and I have done over 500 miles on the bike like that now and so far (touch wood) there have been no problems.
I dont do jumps and stuff just light trail use really, more into just getting out and fitness as I dont have the skills for owt else yet
I had to send those wheels back because when I got them the bearings in the front hub were shot and they couldnt locate any, Crank Bros in the states wasnt v helpful so I was lumbered with them and off the road so I decided to send them back and get a GoPro instead 8)
Weight wise they really wasnt much lighter than my normal wheelset ya know, I thought there would be a huge saving but there wasnt hardly any.
This is her as she is now :
And am waiting in for Mr Postie this morning to deliver me these
I made two vidoes so far, am not v good at video editing n stuff yet but am getting better, here they are

Thats a pity as they were bling wheels Were the bearings a normal sealed type?
I`d agree about putting steel bolts back in to replace the alloy ones, theres a time and a place for that stuff lol!!
I`ve changed my stem for a shorter one, 80mm and am impressed with the ease I can manual and pull power wheelies http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=2&c=48&p=993&My 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930 -
Yeah a normal sealed type, the same ones as Hope bearings which would have fit, so while I could get the bearings I couldnt get hold of the spacers and washers from anywhere unless I went to the states then is waiting for delivery and cost Zzzz.
Ohh I didnt know a diff stem could aid in wheelies ? thats sommat I wanna perfect this summer, am gonna drop the seat and stap a pillow to my back for when I repeatedly flip it but am hopin a wheel school one afternoon will help me along doin some, i'd really love to learn.0 -
For £13 you can`t go wrong with one of those stems, it quickens the steering up a bit too and also allows you to hang off the back a bit better for descents The oe Easton stem on mine was 100mm, they also come with stainless boltsMy 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930

Now if you'd have said red bolts as soft as butter I might have been interested
It does look nice and I noticed very light too.. hmmm.. I just hope its ok with carbon bars...
Jeez.. more money0 -
And its 3 grams ligher than the carbon stem http://www.carboncycles.cc/?s=0&t=2&c=90&p=995&
It`ll be fine with carbon bars, have you noticed what the company is called? lol!!My 2012 Cube LTD http://www.bikeradar.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=128035930 -
Oh wow thats more like it !!!
Oh yeah carbon cycles  I see the first link you put up that one is also compatible with carbon bars too.
Damn you for making me spend more money ! :twisted:0
