LTD Pro looks quality there 8) I still need hollowtech bottom bracket and better mech etc so its still a work in progress, but am hoping to get this down to a sub 10kg rigid XC racer for light XC use :D

I just been buying on CRC as we speak so I best update me spec

    You don't need to mechs!

    XT rear shifter.

Save the cranks until you need new rings.

    Wheels next.

Oh wow nice bike Phil :)

Rigid too ! Nice one, mine will be by end of next week.

So tell me mate, what's it like to have a rigid bike ? The pluses and negatives ?

My bro really isn't a fan of rigids but I can't wait to turn mine into a light weight ultra rigid xc racer :D
  • cheers cubecrazy,
the rockhopper has only had the rigid forks ('exotic' aluminium, by carboncycles.cc) since last month, so only had a few outings on them, so far i'm well happy with them, feels so much nicer to have light front end.

positives- low maintenance / light as a feather / those uphill sections suddenly become a piece of cake!

negatives- will effect your downhill speed because you'll have to 'pick your way' round stuff (depending how brave you are!) and thats about it really.
if you lower the pressure a bit in your front tyre, it'll take some of the harshness out of the rigid front end.
post some pics with your rigid forks fitted, should look good!

    Thanks guys :D

Well I have just taken it for its first ride...

For some reason I have a knock on the headset and I cant stop it  but apart from that ...

It's very true what they say, the acceleration is something else, I am not in a higher gear, i'm in a higher chainring ! lol everything seems so easy, maybe too easy now ? it sure wasnt this easy to ride up hills with the 2.5kg forks on.

Very impressed, wouldnt go back to suspension for anything, now I need to learn how to ride a rigid bike properly so I can hang with the guys on the bumpy bits, and wheelie past on the straights  obviously i'm delusional, am buzzin cos I just been for a run in the dark and I aint been on bike for a few weeks, what a rush cant wait to test it fully :D

If I was you I'd removed the alloy bolts from your brake callipers and stem clamp, that's a nasty accident waiting to happen.

If the rotor bolts are alloy I'd do the same to that too.

Otherwise it's a very nice bike

Get the correct fork and a kilo is worth paying ! Ridden ridgid for years, there's a reason why most have HTs at least!
  • As far as the headset knock, my guess if you havn't gotten it preloaded enough, as I found with those types of expanders that it is very hard to get them set up properly.
  • Thats a mighty fine looking bike 8)

Really glad I chose to go rigid over the heavy suntour forks, I dont do too much technical anyway so this suits my recreational riding perfectly.
  • awesome looking machine cubecrazy,
loving those forks, they really suit the rest of the bike.
fully rigid- it's the way forward!!

Which years rockhopper frame is that and which forks ?

    liking the black look.
  • hi vim147,
the rockhopper is the 2010 model, in the uk they were available in a red + white colour scheme, or the black with grey decals that i chose.
the forks are 'exotic' rigid aluminium, from carboncycles.cc
size 44.5 cm axle to crown.

Tidy Cube, I could use something like that for when I'm too lazy to drag a 31lb, 170mm travel full sus bike around the hills.
Tough frame on the Analog, I saw a young lad fire his off a 8 foot drop four times before the fork steerer snapped on the fifth attempt, the frame is still going strong two years later

I cant seem to find your frame anywhere. is it a comp, expert etc ?
  • @ vim147,
my bike is just the basic 2010 r/hopper sl model (not the comp, expert or pro), this colour scheme was changed for 2011 (to black with white graphics), so i doubt any dealers will still have the black/grey in stock.
if you visit specialized.com, and go to 'bikes' and then click on 'archive' then chose '2010' you should be able to find it, although it is listed as 'gloss black' in reality it is more like 'matt black'.
your best bet for finding one will be probably be on ebay, because as i mentioned, dealers wont have any 2010 models left to buy brand new.

    @vim147- there's one on ebay.co.uk now (24-01-12), 19" black/grey, in lancashire.
sounds good from the description (hardly used).
