How long to get back to form?

Hi.

Well my training started going down hill in September, I guess I should be thankful it has happened at this time of year and not in the middle of summer, it was a succession of colds, I tried getting out after the first cold, I felt fine, I had a very slight cough, thought nothing of it, ended up with another one, anyway, since then I've had about 6-7 different colds in a row, doctor says I'm just unlucky, when I get back to Manchester I'm going to go back perhaps I'm allergic to something, I've coughed up more thick green mucus than the amount of oil leaked from that BP oil leak.

I've had another cold for 7 days now, probably going to be another week off as I'm not taking any chances, if when I am fully better, I'll start cycling, but if I end up with another cold something is not right in which case doctors again.

What I want to know is, how long will it take me to get back to form? I am intending of smashing my pb's this summer in 10 and 25 mile which currently stand at a meh 23:41 and 1 hour 5:53

The last quarter of this year has being none training existent, I've currently gone over 12 stone and seen a number I have not on the scaled for years, and my bodyfat is heading for 16%, compared to 13.5 when I was cycling properly.

It's pretty depressing not getting out on the bike missing all the fun and I'm worried when I start I'm going to struggle to keep up with anyone and it's going to be like starting from square one and I'm going to end up taking years to get back to form?

Any ideas?

Cheers.

  • Time off for illness = time required to get back plus some - is my guess but it all depends.
Green stuff is unlikely to be an allergy BTW. Has your doc checked for the latest trendy thing to have? Mycoplasma infections which usually leads to pneumonia in adults? Don't train until you're feeling well again. Long walks are ok but nothing more strenuous. Sleep plenty, eat as healthily as you can afford - and get well soon!

I don't know if the doctor has checked, but every time I go to the doctors in Manchester they give me a blood test. I've never had anything so long, I went to sleep last Wednesday night feeling fine thing great I'm getting better, not a hint of cold after about a day then, woke up, and I thought FFS this cannot be!!!, I had a sore throat as quick as that and it quickly turned into a full blown cold nose streaming sore throat oil slick from throat etc...

My friends seem to think I'm overreacting and telling me to just do everything and ignore it but I'm not inclined to take their advice.

Earlier on about a month ago I was put on antibiotics, they must have confirmed it was not bacterial as they did nothing, and my lymph notes in my neck are up.

Two weeks to get back decent level not to get dropped on the harder rides, then another 6 to hit racing form and maybe 8 or 10 to peak.
  • Lymph nodes up? ReallY? see the doc again - perhaps you have glandular fever or similar which can behave in a come and go manner. Antibiotics only help with bacterial infections and most so called cold begin as virus infections. But you could have a resident sinus infection which would give similar symptoms -

+1 go see the Doc again, if your Lymph nodes are up you want to get them checked out. If you feel that you don't get listened to make an appointment with a different doc.

    Well I'm almost better now.

I did 6 miles today just to get out, not pushing hard but my god the amount of form I've lost is insane.

My scales are confusing me, I used to weigh about 11, 12 and a half, I weighed myself today, and I weighed 12 6 and a half.

I'm crap with scales, all I know is that seems an insane amount and my body fat has gone from 13.5 to 16.5.
