It has the Canyon catalogue in it. ;)

So it does, bought it to read on my plane ride to London this morning!

PS, on a side note (and yet another option!), anyone have any experience with the Saracen Ariel 1, £500 off the 2011 model now - http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/m15b5s1p522 ... S_GB/14377

that looks a good spec for the money. I've not tried one but from reports it's a much burlier bike than something like the Anthem. It's supposedly a great bike for going downhill and pretty reasonable getting up the other side. More comparable to a Zesty I'd guess...
Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

Mate, If you keep looking you will never buy! Or you'll buy and think "if only i'd gone with ....." You picked the Canyon out yourself because you liked it without someone else suggesting it. IMO most of the bikes you've compared or that have been suggested for you are good, very good. Its down to what YOU want and thats all that matters!

Ask for the "See if i can stretch to the 7.0 or 8.0" thing" ask yourself
1, does the model up have £300 worth of upgrades that will make the bike ride any better? or is the model below just as functional.
2, Will that £300 be better spent personallizing you bike to make it different to anyone elses on the trials. That sense of satifaction you get when someone says "That bit of bling sets off the bike a treat" is pretty cool.
3, Things will break no matter how expensive it is. use the £300 you save to upgrade.
    Cheers,

Very true, but I won't be buying for another month or so anyway, so just keeping my options open, ha ha! :D
  • Thats cool, Just know how easy it is to get carried away "window shopping" lol. I've just built up a hardtail from scratch and I did exactly the same with fork and brake options.

    Have fun riding.

Anyone used Swinnerton Cycles before? They've got the 2012 Trance X4 in for £999, too good to be true maybe - http://www.swinnertoncycles.co.uk/Produ ... _X_4_white
  • Trance x4 £1k vs ghost amr 5700 £1300 or Zesty £1800. is it worth buying the giant with inferior spec knowing that the drive chain,bb, headset etc will need replacing in 12 months or ghost/zesty with better spec that will last 2 years. it all seems that if you take the costs to keep the bike on the mountain for 3 years they all work out about the same price give or take £100. So the main question put the price to one side which is the better bike.

Quite hard to put the price to one side, can't afford £1800 up front, trying to avoid paying over £1000 if possible, parts will always wear out and need replacing, whichever bike you buy.
  • Yes i appreciate that but in theory the better spec the part the longer it should last.

Usually, but drivetrain parts on lower end bikes usually last longer (steel rings, thicker cassettes, more steel in the mechs). Bearings need to be kept an eye on though.

Right, think I've got it narrowed down to 4 bikes, 2 of which I'd have to buy today to get them at the reduced price, so any advice much appreciated, lol!

I'm still very tempted by the Canyon as it looks spot on, and have got a couple of second hand bikes I'm interested in too. ;)

Provisionally ordered the Pro for instore pickup, £1215 minus 3% Quidco, should do the trick! :)
