I assume Halfords own a device for measuring accurately ( I can't think of the English word for it) your stem, their stems, and if necessary your frame's oriface :D

Also check that the pinch bolt is operating correctly, sometimes these can be stuck/damaged and can affect size/fit.

Measure accurately then get a 'good' lbs to ream the tube to correct dimension if necessary, but bear in mind the thickness of tube.

My money is on non accurate size parts sold in *Halfords. Measure before you buy.

*Other shops with inaccurately made parts are available :D

Edit: just measured my campagnolo record seat post ( marked as 26.6) it measures 26.8 :D

On seat posts they sometimes vary in size a bit but it maybe the case a reamer needs to be put down the seat tube. Vernier gauges though are your friend.

Another retro a 1992 Vitus 992 with mavic front and rear mechs and headset. It is vitus attempt at an aero frame and I think they did a good job. Chainset is a middleburn (I have a mavic chainset but I need to find some new chainwheel bolts for it). New wheels are coming 24H mavic CXP14 rims on Mavic MR601 hubs. Slowly this bike will be fully French.

Well here it is at long last! Rescued from a rusting hell on Anglesey in December last year and resprayed at Bob Jackson in Leeds. All spanner work carried out by myself, as well as countless hours with a tube of metal polish. Two sets of brake cables destroyed due to lack of mechanical sympathy on my part plus an "interesting" time fitting thirty-odd year old Benotto tape (only one choice!). Learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes, expanded my toolbox considerably and enjoyed every minute of it, very satisfying thing to do.

A very unloved Harry Hall awaits as next years project...

As you can see, my IT skills sit at an even lower level than my mechanical skills! Thanks for the assistance...

Whilst this thread's been bumped, I put some tyres on my Ron that are fatter than 23c, for the first time in its 28 year life. Clement Strada LGG in 25c. They feel lovely and make the clearances all the more nice and snug!

It fits perfectly in the doorway. I think it would have fallen over with the 23mm tyres.

    Raleigh Kelloggs Pro Tour.

    image_1.jpg

    image_5.jpg?t=1432552015

    Reynolds 501 tubing.
SiS six speed down tube shifting (indexed).
    Incorrect wheelset.
Uprated (well it was back then...) brakeset.
    Needs a new headset.

In need of a tidy up but undecided whether to respray in original colours or give it a single colour powder coat.
Will try to keep original running gear, and perhaps upgrade wheelset with NOS hubs.

I've posted my Master on this tread before, but she's got some new wheels, which is a good excuse for some more photos. The wheels have 80s Croce D'aune hubs on modern Ambrosio Nemesis rims, with DT Swiss Competition spokes. Vittoria Corsa SC tubs.

Very pleased with the new wheels. Not that you should ask an older lady her weight, but the new wheels are a couple of hundred grams lighter than the older Nisi rims on 80s Campagnolo Record hubs, which have 4X plane gauge spokes. Looking forward to warm summer Sunday afternoons on the Master.

That's ^ gorgeous. Nice to see Violin strings and a proper retro build (aside from the rims). When was the frame built?

I believe the frame is from 1989. Virtually new old stock when I got it, apart from a couple of storage scratches on the paintwork.

The second photo breaks too many of the photograph rules, but it was actually very windy, and I was more concerned about the bike blowing over than positioning the valves correctly. I'll have to go back when its sunny and do the job properly.

My first N+1, and first full build.
Raleigh Team Panasonic (Pro??) in 753 flavour.
Built using what I had - Sora 9 speed groupset, Tiagra calipers, R500 rear wheel, Cannondale front wheel (yes, they're not matching - spoke count, brand. But they roll and work, and will be replaced when funds allow)

I got it as a frame set and it looked like this

Into the nut blaster at work, revealed

After cleaning all the paint off in the shot blaster, painting and applying the decals, then finally rebuilding it........
    I have this :)
