Rockshox Rebas from 2004 first reliable air fork that didnt go down every 5 miles and meant the shock pump could be left in the shed.
I have some air sprung Marzocchi EXR Pro's from 2004 and I didn't even own a shock pump until this year! Yes they are heavy and not the plushest, but they were cheap, have taken a beating over the years and still work perfectly. To me, these are the best things ever.

My 2009 Recon's however, hold pressure for a few weeks or so :(

For me, the emergence of decent quality, affordable lighting has made all the difference.

As I have small children, getting out at the weekends is generally difficult. Decent lighting means I can get out a couple of times a week, all through the year.

Rock Shox c.1990-92 Giving us suspension, starting with the RS-1 then Mag 20 + 30 etc and so on... It was a good thing.
    Many happy trails!

For the list I made, I go for:

    - The original Z2 Bomber circa 1997: showed the way to the rest with good stiffness, plush feel and damping that worked.

    - Frame: Marin Mount Vision 1997: same as above - suspension that actually worked with a pivot position in a good place and solid construction.

    - Bike: Saracen Nzyme 1999: the original £300 superbike - 24 speed, sus forks, alloy frame and V brakes were unheard of for this price.

Groupset: New Deore 2000 - it just worked. Just didn't need anything else!

I have a '99 Nzyme in the garage - bought its for the wife way back when. Still original except for the front wheel (& tyres), which is now Hope TI on mavic. Great bike even now.

I bought one after the review in MBUK! I had had my Zaskar nicked at the time (got it back though) and was best I could afford. So when the Zaskar was returned I sold the Nzyme to a mate who promptly had it nicked...

Was a great bike considering many still had rigid forks, 7 speed and canti brakes.

GT Zaskar LE circa 1996/7(?) - Bombproof frame, still got mine knocking around now.
DMR V8 - Flat pedals that work, set the mould for flats IMO.
Dropper Seat post - not sure which one, but the whole concept, stolen from the idea of the office chair, simple and effective.
Oakley - any frames or lenses, the best optics for riding, although pricey.
Park Tools Tooling - expensive but i have owned the AWS-10 tool for 5 years and abused it rotten, it hardly looks used.
Camelbak - hydration when you need it, only recently have the other brands got their act together.

For my serious answer I'll go with the Gravity Dropper- first of the proper droppers, still the lightest, still the most reliable, still the easiest to service. Only reason it hasn't had more of an impact than it has, is that most riders would rather buy a heavier, unreliable, less effective product as long as it looks nice ;)

Butted tubes, don't know when they happened, but has there been a more ubiquitous design on bikes other than the wheel?
The Schwinn Straight 6 / 8, the original carbon framed (albeit just the swing arm) DH/AM bike - forget Lobos, and carbon SC or Ibis, genesis is in the Straight 8.
  • SRAM power links: so much less faff than Shimano connecting pins and no chain failures due to duff installation
    RS Rebas: just work
Shimano XTR SPD pedals:expensive but silky smmoth and just work
Lock on grips: no more moving grips and quick to change
    Shimano disc brakes: just work

Canytou see a theme developing here.......

You mean Shimano DX pedals, the mould from which DMRs were copied?
