Which is the real deal in terms of sporting recognition I believe. The Christmas Panto version is yet to come!

At least he turned out in a better suit.

Could have tightened his knot though.

Does the world have to call him "Sir?" Is he now a knight or something?

That should help with his monster sized ego.

^No, this is just an MBE - you need to be knighted to be called sir...which he wins Olympic Gold, I'd say he almost certainly will be...

MBE's also go to brave lollypop ladies, charity workers, or footballers that score a goal in the quarter finals of a competition and such

I know it's tradition to not shave before a big event at the Tour de France or something (to save every last drop of energy for the ride) but I think picking up his "Jim'll fix it" Badge is not really an excuse for to not put a shaver near his chops.

In case anyone is young here; this is a Jim'll Fix it Badge below-

Thanks -- so he is now a member of the British Empire. What was he before?

    Confusing place.

Really? Normally takes a little more than that. Holmes = 2, Hoy, Pinsent = 4, Redgarve = 5 golds.

Now, how many stages of that well publicised July (every year) cycle race did they win. :?:

In terms of achievement it could be argued that Cav's achievements are already much more significant than those of Chris Hoy. Track cycling is not nearly as high profile as road racing in the wider cycling world.

A bit harsh on Hoy I think. The olympics is the highest level on the track - Cav has much more opportunities to win big races.

Winning the olympic RR next year wouldn't rank that high against what Cav has already won

    I think it's irrelevant...

In the UK (us lot excepted)
    Olympics = important
Cyclists = worthless, even actually a bit childish, may as well run them over, should pay road tax etc

So he can win every race in the world but no one in GB will care until he wins the Olympics....

    Off Topic.
I was reminded at the weekend when I watched several (11) horse & two wheel carts trotting up the main road near
    the M25.
In 10 minutes I saw a single cart followed a few minutes later by 2 and then a couple more solos then 3 carts etc.

The traffic hold up behind these did make me think that they don't need "Road Tax" either.

  • SPOTY tonight on the BBC. Go Cav. Appparently he's the bookies' favourite now.

Also, an interesting little piece by Will Fotheringham in last Sunday's Observer:

Bless him, he's not a great public speaker. I am so very pleased for him though - thought we were going to see tears then. I love Cav.

Could have written a speech though Mark - I'm not sure he actually thought he had a genuine shot!! I know it's soft of me but it's really nice to see how much he and Peta mean to each other. I hope they stay very happy!

My vote helped make the difference too

Had previously seen that he was on for about 40% of the vote, but to get nearly 50% is fantastic news for him and for cycling in general.
