Tried a search and couldn't find much.

Wanting to try Gisburn on saturday, does anyone have any info on what trials are open, have tried a few of the websites and cant find anything about what trails are open.

What's everyone's views on it, just a bit sick of Llandegla so after something different.

Also, anyone got a postcode/directions?

It all open, not been to degla since they opened the new trails but gizzy eats it alive (old trails) Im up there every Sunday, Hope line is good few table tops some nice drop ins and a nice new bottom section, Hully gully is good, bit wet but still great, The Slab is fun and easy to master.

You can go from the Pub and do top loop or bottom loop or both, some DH runs further down which are good if the wind is low.

    Pub post code BD23 4SQ

From there head straight up the gravel road until you hit a fork in the road, here you can go straight on leading to the Hope line and top loop or

Turn left head down until the road swoops right there is a gate to the left, pick up bottom loop there which will lead you to the hope line and top loop.

Bottom loop takes around 40 mins (if your fit, ish!)
Top loop takes about the same unless your messing on hope and slab etc.

  • Went to Gisburn yesterday (Gales? Schmales!!) Everything was open and rideable as normal. Pretty slippy in places, the boardwalk was covered in ice so that was a bit treacherous, and the wind was a bit of a slap in the face where it opens out (Simons swamp.) Should've calmed down by Saturday though.

The only bad bit was just after Hully Gully, the trail crosses a small stream, which is normally a bit of a trickle. Now I don't want to over-exaggerate, but it was a raging torrent comparable to the Amazon. The only thing I could do was take a big run up and go for it, which led to wet feet which was a bit of a stinker given it was only 3 degrees!

    Still, good times! :D

What does 'manual' mean? (in this context)

It means a wheelie that you keep going by pedalling hard and keeping your weight over the balance point of the point.

However for most forum posts it means "I got off and pushed"

how much is the course with pagey.. would be cool to be coached by the man himself...

i dont pedal to manual just shift the weight back and pull back on the bars while pushing forward with the feet..
  • Yeah it was definitely helpful, I'll start to concentrate on technique more rather than just holding on and hoping for the best! Want to do level 2 as soon as I can, think the 2 courses together will really point me in the right direction.

Delcol- check out the "Great Rock" website for info on pageys course.

Sorry to the original poster for hijacking this thread

ha, it's all good, interesting stuff to read.

Never really considered one of those coaching days, I've been racing since the age of 12, so I don't really see what anyone could teach me. However, i'm aware i'm being niave and probably there are plenty of things that would make me much faster.

  • I was up there on Wednesday night. It was grim as we had rain, sleet and hail combined with a strong wind and low temps, but the tracks are holding up quite well apart from a few bits here and there. Got my legs nice and wet through he stream you've been talking about, but I've seen in much deeper after days of rain to the point where it washes people off their bikes. I'd be impressed to see someone ride through it on the back wheel in those conditions.

i was up there today for the 1st time

very technical compared to Deggy and Cannock, but slightly lacking in the descent dept (on the Red)

did some of the Black, including Big Foot, but i did bottle the slab - in my defence it started hailing when i got to the top....

ill def go back and it whips Deggy
  • I can't wait to get back up to Gisburn. Just hoping it drys out a bit before i can get down during January. As its been nonstop rain.

We are a bit short of long descents although you clock up a surprising amount of climbing on the 8 :?

New bit may well be unofficially open after Sunday although to get to the start is a bit of a muddy slog. Going to do some repairs on the blue before we start the next section.

is that the section done in a darker rubble ?

i saw a section of trail at the top of the section where you can decide to go "home" or "go on" that looked like it was under construction

in all i really like Gisburn. Love that the Red is actually quite difficult in some sections. Really different to Cannock and Llandegla.

The Hope line is, when you come up the steep hill from the end of the bottom loop, you turn left at the top to continue the "8" (picnic table) the Hope Line is to the right at the top of that hill and swoops down through the forest, berms, table tops, drop offs, rollers then links back on the fire road at the bottom, problem is you have to then come back up Hamburger hill as we call it.
