Seriously? £41 million of tax payers money on the opening ceremony for the Olympics?
When the ceremony is supposed to be paid for by the Games organisers.

Days after it was announced that 2012 will be the worst year for UK finances.

Does anyone in the UK actually still give a crap about the Olympics?

Yep, that could be 41 million pounds worth of public sector employees still in work. I just hope every single job created is for companies within the UK.

Because they will still be in work not claiming JSA, still spending money and paying taxes. The money won't be going to a bunch of consultants poncing around with ribbons n sh!t.

Personally I think we should turn fiction into fact, kidnap a Princess and have the PM f**k a pig live on air. It would have better viewing figures than the Olympics and cost a lot less. Plus the RMT and C**k face Crow wouldnt be able to demand another £1000 for their staff to actually turn up for work.

Some public sector workers have striked, for one day. When public sector workers are made redundant or staff not replaced, that's more people contributing to the 2.6 million already trying to find work.

In terms of public sector workers getting paid less and having to put more into pensions, I agree with that policy from Cameron. It was an untenable situation which should never have been implemented in the first place.

Brown was feckless not seeing the potential problems up ahead, instead of saving for a down turn he goes and gives salary increases pretty much across the board to public sector workers. "No more boom and bust"; naive arrogance.

I read that as "Brown was feckless not seeing the potential plumbs up on his head".... could have been correct.

Yet over in the Strike thread people are still banging away with "The cuts are inevitable, there isn't any money to spend". Easy to believe things you want to believe even when it's obvious cobblers, I guess.

There's loads of money lying around on balance sheets EVERYWHERE. The ultra-liberal (economic, not social), corporation capitalism that we follow means that the ultra-rich (individuals, companies, corporations, whatever) still have masses of capital, it's just that no-one wants to spend it right now!

Fair play to the politicians (with the help of murdoch and the other media ultra-corps), they are making us believe that it is our fault for wanting a decent NHS, for wanting our elderly to have a decent retirement and be cared for when needed and wanting reasonable educations. I agree that many of us overspent (not me personally) on credit but that is exactly what our economic system encouraged!!!

Or you aren't aware of the arrest of a man and a woman over the weekend, on the suspicion of the rape of a 1 month old baby boy. Which is what I think FocusZing was getting at.

In truth, it has nothing to do with any "inside jokes" (...though depends on your definition of 'inside').

What's the deal with this anyway? Some dicksplash tamper with a baby for real?

I don't read anything from The Sun (scum of the highest order). I'll take a guess from the link title though.

It's not only 41 million, it's an extra 41 million on top of the planned spend (which included a big contingency fund which they're now saying isn't big enough) Total budget was 9.3bn but it's anyone's guess how far over it's going to be.

I suppose we should all ignore the potential £10-£20bn* in revenue the games are due to generate for the UK then. If we are going to dig at the Olympics, at least do it with some balance.
