Take them out and shoot them

Well said that man.

So you want to shoot my wife? Nice

And as for his comment about people who commit suicide...really tasteful in the context of Gary Speed's apparent suicide, nice

    What a pr1ck

It's just a hill. Get over it.

    It was a joke right?

With hindsight, a bad one. You could see he was trying to have a cheap joke about impartiality, but it didn't really work.

Miliband's come off quite badly in this.

The whole thing wasn't too bad. He made the point about 2 sides to a story in a really stupid way. That's what he does. They must have expected him to be obnoxious when they invited him to be on the show.
Agree the suicide thing is far worse which is why an apology went out before the programme had even finished.

No of course he doesn't. It's what is known as a turn of phrase. I've "wanted to kill" all manner of people including my own kids but of course I would never do such a thing because it's just a saying, not a real expression of my intentions or even my real feelings.

Is nobody allowed to express any humour or feelings on any subject without running them through the entire list of possible scenarios where they might offend someone, somewhere?

It was a bad joke, caused massive controversy, he won't get fired, his fans loved it, he's got a new book out.

Everyone wins except for Ed Miliband and the public sector.

Clarkson's public sector anyway, isn't he? Employed by the BBC?

    Overpaid, lazy.

    Makes sense.

Perhaps he should be taken out and executed infront of his family. In a satirical manner of course.
  • It was a joke. Anyone who doesn't get that should be taken out and shot....

Disappointed but not surprised that it got any attention at all.
The Jeremy Clarkson that appears on Top Gear or The One Show is just a character, and over the last few years even a caricature of that character. If Frankie Boyle had said it people would have assumed he was being 'edgy'. Clarkson is just as predictable and it's worrying how many people fall for it.

    Indeed.
The BBC was facing fresh questions today after Clarkson reportedly claimed that producers were warned in advance and approved of the comments he made on The One Show.

Clarkson, who appeared on the programme to promote his Christmas DVD, told The Times that he had informed the production team before transmission of the details of what he insists was only a joke remark.

The show's producers thought it would be entertaining if Clarkson offered an extreme view of the strike that was not meant to be taken seriously, the newspaper reports.

How can so many people be that desperate to be offended? Blimey...

First he says about the strikes "I think they have been fantastic"
Later he says "But we have to balance this though, because this is the BBC."
Then he says "Frankly, I'd have them all shot"...
Then one of the hosts says "of course those are Jeremy's views."
To which he replies "They're not. I've just given two views for you."

I don't mind Clarkson and can certainly see the fact it's an act / character he plays. As one comment put it in this morning papers "Clarkson say something controversial, isn't that what he's supposed to do". I do however think Boyle is far from edgy and is often very offensive.

I am far more offended by the fact that Clarkson is overweight, wears brown brogues and tucks his shirt into his jeans.

I'm even more offended that by the fact that other people think it's a good look.

This is the correct and sane way to take it.

The point about Clarkson is that sooner or later he offends everybody - its what he does
Wont stop me watching Top Gear though
  • <3 Clarkson. It was a joke that was a victim, mostly, of sensationalist media editing.

Having met him a few times, he's mostly like an excitable kid and a thoroughly nice guy, although he smokes like a chimney and has truly awful teeth. The latter two are probably connected!

Clearly you've never worked with the same public sector as I have - the one that I work with (note: I'm private sector) is full of dedicated, extremely hard-working and high-quality people.

Bear in mind that those work-shy feckless lazy layabouts are the same ones who will put you back together should you ever come off your bike. Or save you from a burning building, protect your person and property, provide defence of the land, maintain the roads on which you drive, provide the signs that you read, look after the street lights that light your way...do I need to go on?

I think the public perception is more that the frontline folk, nurses, doctors, firemen, police (to an extent - they receive more criticism) are hard-working types indeed. However, the desk driving muddle management pen-pushers.... not so much.

I'll tell you what offends me. People who get offended easily or who seem to enjoy being offended.

I'll tell you what I love. Humourless folk who froth all over internet forums.
