Doesn't look like 77 mph to me! 77 kph may be0
-
Lame. This comes up all the time. Anyone can go downhill fast when there's no decent corners involved.
Also, if i'm going to be pedantic - there's nothing to say it wasn't 77kph (47.8mph) which is far more likely (and still pretty fast). If you want to see some exciting stuff then take a look at Cancellara or Nibali going downhill. The video posted is more like A Schleck and Ivan Basso0 -
Can you do 77mph the other way though?0

Downhill and A Schleck all within 2 sentences. This cannot be right?
As for the OP, first ever post and you come on to say ''how fast can you all go? I can go 77mph''. Good one.0 -
Good job i put the full stop in to eliminate any possible confusion that A Schleck is an exciting descender.
That said he would probably nail most of us down an alpine pass.0 -

OK OK, fine.
It was really 4kph.0 -
I can claim 60mph some years back, but I was on training rollers (thank my lucky stars I didn't fall off said rollers at that speed) rather than outdoors so dunno if it really counts.

Yes, you wanna watch out for it at that kinda speed...

The guy leading down took a bit of a risk with that overtake on the corner!
I dont think anywhere close to 77mph is possible on British roads (to put it in perspective Thor Hushovd was amongst the fastest descenders in the TdF this year and he peaked at "only" 69 mph). There are very few descents in the country where even topping 60 is achievable.
So either a miscalibrated speedo or wireless interference or a lost gps signal. That said 77kmh is still quite fast0 -

Mis-calibrated speedo? Probably Wiggle's fault....

77mph - not likely. Highest on my roadbike is around 44mph verified by ODO and GPS, highest on my fat tyred mtb around 33mph - offroad - it aint so much about the number as where you do it! Anyway - i came off the back of Schiehallion at 2010 Cale Etape and max speed recorded was 64mph - now i go a lot harder than my mates do but i don't believe I was doing over 50mph...the machine is not infallible, sorry to puncture your balloon.. Agree with Omar - TH's speed at TdF is corroborated by motorbikes and very sensitive equipment.0

I live six miles away from the top of Kirkstone pass and frequently go north over the pass, there is NO WAY on gods earth that is 77MPH!, I would say they probably reached around 45 maybe?.
Definitely going too fast on a couple of places as well but thats because they probaly didnt know the road-a cyclist was rescued by helicopter the other week after hitting the wall on the way down.0 -
Poor old MikeHarris, Could this be his first and last ever post.0

77mph Kirkstone pass....
Horse sh*t
Not Horse sh*t at all....i also went up Kirkstone pass at 77 mph a while ago. (got slight quad burn towards the top though!)0 -
Must be as a result of strength training.
Or light wheels.0 -
I'd reckon kph. One is on a flat bar hybrid not the most aero position known to man (unless he's the great Graeme Obree)
77kph not to be laughed at though, I'd have been trailing behind on the brakes!!Ribble R872
Specialized Langster Monaco
Trek 63000 -

I have done over 65 mph in Oman - I say over as the garmin locked out and stopped recording at that speed, and restarted when i dropped below 65 MPH0

Facepalm smiley please?!?!?!?!
My bike computer says i've been 95mph. I don't believe it though. It also says my heart rate has been 290bpm. I don't believe it though.
Wireless bike computers always have and always will do funny things and come out with ridiculous numbers on occasion. Something to do with interference. There's nothing to say you did 77mph down kirkstone pass. Just that it was somewhere in amongst 590 miles of riding.0 -
I've maxed out at 84.6mph 8) ....after I left my GPS running when the bike was on the back of my car on the way home.. :oops:0
