That was still useful, thanks!
My brother has 'Zinn and the art of road bike maintainance', which is pretty comprehensive I think...
I think quite a lot of the tasks are going to be complicated by the level of corrosion on the bike- even getting the front calliper off the fork was a bit of struggle. The other issue is my confidence levels! For example, I'm not sure how much I trust myself to remove all the corrosion or to judge if it's reached the bond with the carbon...0 -
Take your time and get on with it, you will learn so much from this project it will keep you in good stead for the future. There are plenty of online guides, books and forum support to get the majority of this work done. Get the parts and your brother involved if necessary.0

Right- I've gone to work on the fork: does this look like I've got to it enough? I cant see any corrosion now...
Do these look okay for respraying it? How many coats of each?

Sorry about the constant need for reasurrance but I want to do this right!0 -
Lookin good! (No sign of any carbon fibre though, so I'm thinking it's an all alloy fork)
I'd say 1 decent coat of primer followed by 2 coats of gloss and see what it looks like. You might want to give the whole thing a finishing spray of clearcoat if you're really fussy.0 -
Right, the fork's sorted now (Looks a bit odd with a white crown but it was the cheapest paint...)
On to the bottom bracket, which is currently massively oversized, and ensures that the chain NEVER runs straight...
The Bikepedia spec says the correct dimensions are:
Bottom Bracket: Sport cartridge, 110mm spindle
BB Shell Width: 68mm
Will any BB with these dimensions fit?
Thanks again for the help!0
