New RM slayer build

So I know a few of you saw me selling stuff off and wondered what I was doing, so here it is. My new RM Slayer do-it-all build. I got fed up of riding a hardtail XC and wanted something i could pedal up (albeit a little slower) but shred the descents, so here it is!
Apologies for the messy room!
Took it for a bit of a spin today at a local downhill track, and it handles it really well, nice and slack, and the rear shock, while not amazing on small bumps, is definitely adequate.
I also have two wheelsets, in that photo i'm running the front superstar downhill wheel and my rear hope hoop as the rear DH hub needs new bearings. Basically to save a bit of weight, and so i don't have to mess about changing tyres to suit disciplines.
so what do you reckon?

cheers, you mean the fork? 180mm, should be able to cope with it i reckon, i'm running quite a lot of sag anyway.
just need to get the slx cranks on there and a new chainring and it's done0 -
quite nice but tbh not what i would go for. i'd probably get somehting with a bit more travel on the back to match the front and work better on the downhills.
student life, eh?0 -
It's 150mm at the rear, i reckon any more than that and pedalling uphill would be too much of a chore! seems pretty good from the ride today, doesn't seem to bottom out as much as my patriot did, much more progressive. However the small bump response isn't quite as good.0

Depends on the suspension. Canyon is 180 out back, but if I sit on the saddle while climbing it stays fairly inactive, making it ok to climb on. Similar to Kona Stinky's. My bro's 2009 model was pretty good at climbing even though it weighed about 40gazillion lbs!0
-
thing is, with the single ring, it means i have to pedal out of the saddle a fair bit sometimes, pretty glad the shock has propedal though, makes a huge difference0
-
it depends on the design. something like a dw link was made to have good pedalling efficiency.0

True, haddn't thought of that. Will be interesing to see how the Canyon handles climbs now, just completed the single ring setup, all working spot on!0 -
nice, i would imagine your bike would pedal fairly well with the right setup, i'd probably put a 34t ring on there if you haven't already.0

Anyway - nice lynx shower you have there0 -

Standard crudcatcher response will always bleed through to the other forums like capped knee0

haha, it's alright, the lads in the uni bike club are far worse than you guys0

Blocked my rose off as well - impossible to attempt any drop tuning and once you tried, there was no getting it back to standard. I made the mistake only a few times. Gave it to the local shop to retune once, they said don't f###ing do it again. I did it again, took me over a week to retune... In went some wood.0
-
haha, yeah it's my only guitar, so it's a massive ballache to try and tune it to anything else if it's not blocked off. If I had a few guitars, i wouldn't mind having a floating bridge, but otherwise it's just a pain. I got the guitar for about £70 off ebay anyway (bargain of the century) so I don't mind!0

So I've got some new bits on this, X7 rear mech because my X9 died, SLX cranks (this was a while ago), and I just bought some lyrik coils, now fitted and looking sexy! (though i'm not entirely sure the white works, but they were cheap so i don't care). Possibly a dropper post coming soon and a smaller chainring and it will be complete.
Some teaser pics before i get some decent ones when it's light outside:
Treated the bike while i was doing the work and stuck in some new shock bushings and brake pads as well, the old girl was feeling a little ropey! Might treat her to some new pivot bearings soon as well.0 -
Those forks do look lovely. In honesty, the frame has a pretty crap paint job the forks distract from it. Bet it's a lovely bike to ride.0
-
Haha, the paint job looks better in person, though i would have preferred the 'canuck' red and white one, they look sweeeeeet! It does ride pretty nicely though Handles both XC and downhill reasonably well, which is all i wanted really!0

Nice, I take it that's yours? Nice build, little more XC than mine
The actual paint itself does seem good quality, as it was on my old orange. The paint on my old on one was like cheese though!0 -
nice looking scoot is that a Line 6 and Ibanez lurking in the bottom corner?live, ride, survive
