Turbo Trainer Tyre Blowout!

Hi there,

I was just setting up my new turbo trainer and had an unexpected tyre eruption. I have a cyclocross bike that had .28 rear tyre on it, I switched this out for a Tacx Trainer Tyre .23. I put the same innertube in the trainer tyre, a Schwable .28 sized offering. At the time I thought it was a lot of tube for such a small tyre, however, I stuffed it in anyway keen to try out the new toy. I inflated the tyre upto about 85 psi and several mins later while I was fitting the bike in the trainer the tyre blew! After I cleaned up the mess on the carpet I looked at the tyre which had blown off the rim on one side. The innertube had a large blowhole inn it.

So, was the innertube too big for the tyre?
Was the tyre too narrow for the cyclocross rim?

Will it be safe to fit a 700x25-32C-27x1.1/4 (my only other spare), or will I need a smaller innertube?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Sounds like you caught the tube under the tyre ?
