Help with training

Hi! I have just started a new job that requires being in the office all week - it does mean a 7 hilly(ish) mile commute each way. Could do with some help with a training programme that utilises my commute. I have voluntary commitments on Sunday - but would have some time on Saturday.
My previous role had more flexibility - I'm worried that I will loose some of my fitness.
There must be a training programme for someone on limited time.....?
All ideas gratefully received.
Thanks Helen.

You've got a reasonable distance to commute, 14 miles a day. So 70 miles a week. I don't know how fit you are, or what your goals are, but I would do a long, steady ride on the Saturday, gradually ramping up the mileage, and use the seven miles of commute for intervals (shorter, more intense bursts) and hill climbing. And, as you're talking about training, I would join a club, if you haven't already. You won't look back.0

Extend the commute home? Not always nice training in the dark, but it certainly is a viable option if you get some decent lights.0

Agree with SBezza if you can have a few routes of different lengths it keeps things interesting as well.

True, commuting gets you out on the bike, and getting out is the hardest part.0
