hi all,
planning on giving John o'groat to Lands end a go, can anybody assist with a training schedeule or suggestions on training targets, tips eg: weekly miles, good gym routines any help will be appreciated.
my target is average 70 miles per day, i have a good current fitness level, however i am relatively new to cycling, i currently only cycling a couple times a week, with my weekend distance being approx 50 miles ( the other 5 days are taken up with gym, running & swimming..... ohh & the odd curry with a few ales ) i appreciate i will have to refocus my training on my goal.
Many thanks
Nick

That's my aim for the summer aswell, except I'm going for LEJOG. You may want to say your current fitness level and how many days you plan on doing it in.0

Having complete the End to End, the secret is being able to do back to back rides, so I would continue with your current cycling routine but increase individual rides to 70-100 miles, and the do some back to back rides once a month a few months before you start the trip. Also get used to sitting in the saddle for long periods. Though I live in a hilly area, I did a lot of flat miles to ensure i was comfortable on my bike. The CTC has a wealth of info on end to end and is well worth a look, also

I agree, get some long back to back rides in. I did it last year and during the planning i found that were more routes than i had expected. As it turned out our route ended up being quite flat ( felt that way) other than Devon / Cornwall and Scotland. Basically as already said just get out and ride, long rides, hilly rides and back to back rides. During training i found the back to back rides pretty tough but during the ride itself never really bothered me. I also found that during the actual ride trying not to think of it as about 1000miles but just daily ride hepled.
If it helps i was riding about 25 - 50miles anywhere from 3 - 6days a week from about April to when we did the ride in July.Boardman Team 09 HT
