'Matches' and powermeters?

Does anyone use the data from rides to evaluate 'matches' as defined by TrainingPeaks? If so do you find them useful or do you just do it out of interest?

I tend not to bother. There was some discussion on here recently about their use, and the concensus was that they're interesting, but not that useful.0

I've plotted 30-second rolling average power raised to the 4th power using a logarithmic vertical scale to highlight such "flares":

That's interesting. However, I picked a ride at random and computed matches using this method then compared to the definition of 120% FTP for >1min and guess what? Same number of matches. Maybe wouldn't give the same for all rides or even most rides.
Your method does however show the 'matches' nicely in a graph.More problems but still living....0
