Sooo... what is this??

Hello all,

I seem to have a nagging tenderness in my foot just here (see pic):

picture1wga.jpg

Anyone know what that lump is? I think everyone has one (?) but does it have a name? What does it do? How do I fix it? It's been sore for about 2 months now. If I stop all exercise (running and cycling) for a week or so then it fades but as soon as I do just one run (or even walk more than 15 mins) it flares up again. I don't remeber twisting my ankle or anything, it's just one day, it was there... :?

Anybody had anything similar? I know I should probably rest it for months, but that would be just too BORING and plus which I need to cycle into work. Any wise words much appreciated!

something to show a physio maybe? No idea otherwise - ligament probably but maybe a tendon... show a pro!!
  • I've currently got something that would seem similar.

My googling has narrowed it down to the Peroneal Tendon:

However, I'm not medically trained so you're probably better off seeing a physio. I can't currently be bothered as I'm hoping it'll just go away  Am trying a few strengthening exercises.

That blue arrow sticking in your foot might have something to do with it.

More seriously, I've just had my shoes and socks off in the office and I don't appear to have one of those lumps on either foot. Do you have a matching pair, so to speak?

Either way, I'd suggest a trip to your GP, and hopefully a referral to a foot specialist.

Complicated structures, feet. I had minor foot surgery to remove some encysted sea urchin spines a while ago. My surgeon was called Fred the Foot according to his website; very highly regarded apparently!

I'm wondering if the vasectomy chap had a nickname too..

Bill the Bollock? Nigel the Nutsack?
  • looks like a ganglion, its a fluid sack that builds up round the tendon and leads to inflamation, i get them on my wrists and they can be sore, but all you have to do is give it a whack with a rolled up mag or something similar and it disperses and releives the pressure, im serious by the way. in a couple of days pain free

let me know how u get on

Wow, thanks everyone. Definitely some food for thought...

Derbygrimpeur - it's good to see we both have the same attitude to what should be done and what we actually do. I'm very much in the "if I just get on with things, it'll get better eventually" frame of mind. I just wish it wouldn't take so long.

skellator3 - I'll have a look into that ganglion idea. My wife has on one on her wrist which I've always been very unsympathetic about... Plenty of magazines lying around - A4 or A5

keef66 - you don't have those bumps?? I don't want to alarm you, but you may be missing some bits...?

It's OK, I have plenty of bumps elsewhere to make up for them.
