Try your local atomic power station.See if they can knock some up.It should be a by product of heavy water?!

    Waaay ahead of you.
Deuterium-depleted water is what you're looking for.
  • Drink petrol instead. Much lighter than water. Bound to do the trick.

Anything that floats on water is lighter than water - so oil and petrol are both on the list, along with polystyrene beads and pure alcohol. But a much better solution is in-flight refuelling - all you need is a dedicated "tanker" team mate who will ride in close formation with a Camelback hose trailing behind them for you to drink from. This even saves you the weight of the cage, and I'm sure we'll see it soon on the TdF now that the idea's out there

  • Liquid helium ? drink it and it will turn to a lighter than air gas, problem solved. Only problem is the large "Dewar" to hold the liqiud.

Also, squealing "Get out of the f**king way" in a high-pitched helium voice is a sacrifice too far...

Avoid Helium - too heavy and a fire retardant. Go for liquid hydrogen.

That way, your bike is lighter plus by incorporating a pilot flame/cigarette lighter strapped onto the top of your (helium filled) saddle bag, there should be a large degree of added propulsion as the gas works through to the end of its alimentary canal journey.

Plus a global helium shortage is imminent in the next 50 years or so. Unless nuclear fusion suddenly takes off in a big way (not in the WMD sense) and it can be made from scratch in sizeable amounts.
