Will be building this over the next few weeks. I'm dismantling the raw steel bike for now and will use a lot of the parts here. I'm probably going to get a Velocity A23 wheelset built up from strada, all silver. Fancy trying some Vittoria SC tyres or maybe some more Paves for the winter.

Wasn't planning this bike but I've fancied this frame for a long time and couldn't resist at the price, the previous owner never even built it up as far as I can see.

In the new year it will have a gloss carbon C59 friend. A nice monochrome collection I guess.

It's a shame it should suffer the hardships of winter! Looks gorgeous.

Don't loose it in the snow

Hehe I'm joking about the winter thing really, just mean it will be all white.

Really really wanna built it up now but bars don't arrive for 10 days and need to face and thread parts so booked in for fit setup and build first week of November so the current gorgeous weekend weather is frustrating. I'm in such state of dismantling and part swapping that I can't rustle up a complete bike to get out on. Bummer. Bet it starts snowing the day its ready to ride.

Undecided at the moment whether to go quill or ahead. I think quill but have this nagging doubt. Once I do it the steerer is too short to go back on the decision.
  • You have to go with a quill stem! Ahead and clamp stem would ruin it in my opinion...

    I have to agree.
    Unfortunately for me

Although I would say that it has to be Campagnolo on a Master.

    Looks lovely!

Have to disagree on the quill stem. The Colnago stem looks pretty good.

Beautiful frame. Has the potential to be one of the nicest looking bikes on bikeradar, so no pressure

Hmm I think I'm gonna disappoint people with the parts I'm gonna use but the bike will be used every day so ultimately function will rule over form.

APIII, the stem on that bike is stefan's own creation. It's a custom painted fake. I do love his bike though and he takes a great photo, have a look on his blog.

My problem with the ahead stems is that although it will possibly bring a bit more front end stiffness, they look so heavy on a master. It would be the thickest tube on the bike by 50%.
  • THE BOMB!

It's just the loveliest of the lovely and it 's going to be my next bike but in Sarroni Red.

You're a lucky baxtard finding one outside of the shops. I need a Hobbit's 52 and I've just been quoted 12-16 weeks

Picked up the Campagnolo Athena group for it today though :D

I need to decide on wheels now. Was thinking of some silver spoked silver rimmed Ambrosio Excellence from Wheelsmith...

Keep us up to date on the build Evil Laugh.

    That's standard for the Master.
At least at this time of year you have a chance of it being met. If that 12-16 weeks included July or August - no chance

Oh dear think I need to change my underwear, a Master in white! Never seen that colour but it looks great, can't wait to see the final build.

Very nice, the Master was the best looking bike at the Colnago stand at the NEC, despite all the C59's etc. there.

Can you do me a favour and please weigh the bare frame in grams?

  • Very nice indeed.

Seriously thinking about adding one of these to my Colnago fleet.

    FJ

    Think it was 1750

I did weigh it out of curiosity. Fork was about 700 uncut.

1750 is very good for a lugged frame, granted it was Colnago's best racing frame back in the day so it's not going to be a boat anchor.

What size is it? a 57?

I'm impressed you've found the aero DA post, which, back in the day when I was just getting into this gig was called DuraAce AX.

    Yep 57.

    Frame is 1756, fork 710.

Had the post a while, come up fairly regularly but finding a nice one, 27.2 took a while.

Might not be able to use it though, on that sade in 4mm short on my seat height. It's fairly low profile so depends what saddle I end up using. I take it pushing a post 4mm past max height isn't the best idea?
  • Absolutely beautiful frame, it oozes class!

Grr. Got frame back, fork cut etc. Went to quickly build up to assess stem size etc and the NDS bb thread is buggered. DS went in straight away by hand, NDS just wouldn't catch, it's flattened the thread on my bb cup. It appears on inspection that the thread on the bb shell starts in both directions. Could this be a failed attempt to insert an English bb cup? Hopefully it is easy to retap but peed me right off was hoping to ride tomorrow. :?
