Stoopid thing. Can't update, keeps crashing out with a restore error. Anyone else geting this?

Going to try and reinstall it as a restore and see if that works...

Mine was crashing last night as the system was overloaded.
    Worked fine at 6:00 AM.
Try again now the U.S. is sleeping?

PS - Allow over an hour for full download/upload and sync.

Late start in the office today..........
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • Slow download last night but otherwise went without a hitch
I may be a minority of one but that doesn't prevent me from being right.

Having tried and failed last night (downloaded slowly, but then couldn't install the update), I tried again this morning. The restore just took for ever, and I ended up cancelling it. Left work 30 minutes late and now I have iOS 5 on my iPhone, but no apps. Looks like I should be able to finish the restore when I get home tonight!

If anyone gets it and uses it on the iPhone 4 (not 4S), be interested to hear your thoughts.

I'm sticking with the old software for now as my phone is highly customised and not keen to throw all the features and tricks away quite yet unless ios5 is worth it.

  • Got it downloaded and running on an Iphone 4 last night - took an hour or so, but it warns you that it will.
    Battery life seems fine.

    Proximity reminders look promising:
reminder to drink beer when entering pub
reminder to say goodbye to wife when leaving house
reminder to brew up when entering work
reminder to buy food when entering supermarket

    the possibilities are endless...............

Anyone put this on a 3GS?

    Any issues?
  • It's now 3 hrs since I installed ios 5, have used my phone as an iPod for 2 hrs since then and made 4 phone calls and my battery has depleted by only 5%. Better than before!
That is on an iPhone 4 though!

    Can we fix it?
    Yes we can!

    I'm scared of rooting!

How much harder is it that updating to gingerbread manually? That was pretty easy. I really could do with more storage space, Sense gobbles it all up.

Correct, loads of people downloading the "iMesseneger" app. But this is totally not related.

iMessage is built into the standard iPhone messages app and can detect if you're sending it to another iOS 5 device.

  • Updated my 3GS last night along with iPad 2. Both working fine but I don't know anyone else who has updated so not had a chance to use iMessage yet.

Took ages though. Each update needed to be done one at a time and OSX lion needed an update too along with iTunes and the Apple TV.

Will have to do the wifes 3GS when she gets back tomorrow so with get a chance to try out iMessage and try to make it work with a single iTunes account but two different devices. Hope it works OK.
