Hi,
Took delivery of my new bike (Anthem) via Ash cycles in Chingford recently and was a bit suprised to see that it was delivered without a shock pump. I've emailed the shop and they claim they no longer send out pumps as they had too many returned faulty pumps. I thought they had to. I emailed Giant but i've had no reply (what is it with them?).
What are people's opinions on this? Should they have sent me one or not?

    Bit cheeky I'd say

My bro bought a 2012 Anthem last week (in Manilla!) - came with a shock pump

Do you also expect a tyre pump, multitool etc? My bike didn't come with a shock pump, but a pair of Magura forks did.

  • Forks come with shock pumps when bought retail i.e in a full retail box.

OEM forks come in a plastic bag with nothing but fresh air.( usually save a few quid)

A bike is made from OEM components not retail components hence tend not to come with a shock pump.

    Hope this makes sense.

Seen a few people say you should get a shock pump with a new bike, but not heard of many doing this. I've never had one provided, or a tyre pump either. £20 gets you a good enough pump of your choice and chances are someone you ride with has one.

Trek do, Spesh don't, looks like Giant probably don't (usually) either.

  • I'll send you address then! £15 is £15 mate. It is an issue or you'd be sending me one 1st class tomorrow.
In conclusion then, some get them, some don't. No sweat.

I don't get a foot pump when I buy a car either. I mean, spend many thousands on a car and they don't even give you a foot pump! Shocking I tell ya.
  • You also don't get Microsoft Office with every laptop you buy, and if it's not pre-installed already; you have to buy it on your own, sometimes they offer bundle prices.

It really is annoying when people always complaing about not getting something for free.

    Totally disagree.
Bike should come with pump, it is part of the package.
It is not described as free.
The original poster is right to be annoyed.
Anyone who disagrees is wrong and should be utterly ashamed of themselves.
I would expect and want the pump.
Get back to the sales staff and demand the pump.
Should not have to pay £15 or any amount.
This is my view and cannot be wrong as it is only a view and not fact.
The U S of T was a wee add on to annoy.

Specialized didn't supply a pump (but the LBS gave me one anyway)
Trek supply a pump with their bikes.

    .

    See above.

I now have 2 shock pumps.
Personally, I would rather have £30 off my Trek than to be supplied with a "free" shock pump I don't really need.

    Fact.

There is a solution that has just surfaced.
    1 has none and 1 has 2.
If 1 had 1 and 1 had 1, everyone is happy.
    Problem solved. 8)

So, because biking often includes the use of shoes, gloves, often times a helmet, and energy, does that mean they should supply that too? As part of the package? Since you need to keep the chain lubed, should you get free lube? Should your bike also come with every maintenance tool needed, as it's part of the package?

There comes a point where expecting everything to be handed to you on a plate is just plain retarded. You paid for a bike, and not a bike and pump. Some companies give them free, if your really worried about getting "the full package", buy a trek, not another brand. Then you can boast you got a free pump. Whoopdy fricken du.

Why mountain bike, or do any sport that requires equipment if your complaining about 15 quid`?

presuming there's air in the tyres and you can adjust the seat height the only thing you need before you ride is to set up the forks.

If the shop has done this for you (properly) in store then no shock pump required if not then you should be supplied supplied with one, innit.

    Still all wrong.
Car specced with cd player and it comes with no cd player.
That is ok because it was just a freebie.
Car specced with toolkit and comes with no tookit.
Thats ok because it was a free toolkit.
Car specced with footwell mats and it gets delivered with no mats.
That is ok because it was free anyway.

What anthem x did you get and was it 2011 or 2012.
Do you know if the anthem x4 should have front fork lockout.
It has a blue lever that looks like a lockout but I could not see op manual.

You seem to be rambling more than usual.
If the pump was part of the deal, fair enough, so post a link to the bike the OP bought or shut up.

There is a difference between advertising the bike, and in the ad stating a shock pump is included, and it not being advertised. if the bike is advertised as being sold with said pump, you should get it, if it doesnt say it comes with one, then offering discounts, or throwing one in, is a good faith gesture from the LBS, but not necessary.

There is a huge difference between being told your getting something, and not getting it, and assuming your going to get something based off the fact you "believe" you are entitled to one, and then throwing a hissy fit when you don't.

So you can continue posting retardedness, but if you're not going to shut up show me the advertisement for where the customer bought the bike that says a shock pump is included.

    Easy enough
There are the Anthems, no idea which model the OP bought, but should be easy enough, just look for the one with the free shock pump.

  • So, as it stands, unless the OP oredered one of the specials with the 15%, or 10%, of free goods, he had no chance of getting anything free.

I too bought a Giant Anthem X4 from Ash Cycles in Septmeber. This is the 2011 model we are talking about and no I didn't get a free pump with it and as it was bought online and delivered, I won't get a free service after 3 months either.
However the bought price was £1139 reduced from £1650, so with a saving of £511 for such an impressive bike, i'll live with those in my opinion minor annoyances.
Plus also my Bruv and a mate have shock pumps already (mate has a Feul EX8 which yes did come with a pump but the he paid £2300 for the bike.) so i'll use theirs :D

If it is not advertised as coming with a pump, then you have no grounds for complaint. If it is advertised as having a pump, and it arrives with out one, you have grounds for complaint. Check what you are actually buying.

As has been said, if it says nothing about any free extra's then there won't be any! Simple really!!!
And if it was a sale bike just be happy with the saving you have made and i'm sure you could get just about any shock pump you want with the saving!!!
