  • MountainMonster, I've seen yours, looks good. I toyed with the idea of red but decided on blue. I've got a mix of 9 speed shifters, cassette and rear mech with 10 speed chainset and front mech. I'm reluctant to go 2 rings upfront as when out locally I have to cover a fair amount distance on the road where the big rings very useful!

Same as with me, I have about a 10km each way trip down a river path to get the beginning of ANY trails, thinking I may switch the middle ring for one even bigger just to have that extra oomph.

Quick update. Decided to get rid of the big ring and swap the middle for a 34t Blackspire ring after doing local run and not touching the big ring. Took an age to get the shifting to the middle ring right, kept overshifting, had to lower the mech by about 5mm to get it working. Fingers crossed it works when I'm out on the trail proper.

Also picked up a set of second hand blue hope skewers for a tenner, couldn't say no really :D

    Dirt Jumper Dmr Sidekick2
  • Good luck with those rotor bolts. Are they the alloy MOWA ones? If so be VERY careful with them. Mine rounded off (using a properly calibrated wrench) when I came to remove them and I ended up having to drill about 4 of them out.

    Looking good though.

Rides great, FoD tomorrow, can't wait. I assume you mean the chainring bolts, the new ones are from here, but only good if using single or double upfront.

They are indeed mowa bolts, I'll make sure I'm really carful if and when they need to come out, thanks for the heads up.

Looks good, but then i think owners are biased!

I'm just about to swap my Hope QRs back to shimano ones as to be honest the Hope ones are a pain to use, where as shimano xt ones seem to work better and are kinder on my hands!

I've also just swapped mine to 2x9 this week as well. I'm using a 36-26 up front and 11-32 at the rear, i've never missed the extra hill climbing gears.

    Couple of quick updates:

New pedals, used for the first time tonight, first impressions are good, feel more grippy than the MG1's:

And a Charge Knife to replace the Spoon as I got a really good deal:
    1ccf6530.jpg

Going to be ordering some new wheels tomorrow, Stan's Arch EX on Hope ProII's, but can't decide if I want black or blue hubs. I've also got a set of Easton Haven Carbon bars to go on when I get round to it.

Quick pretty pic I like from half way down potato alley in the peaks:

Definately black, white rims don't do it for me at all!

I can highly recommend Crest rims as I have them on mine!

Arch EX's, in black ordered, it's only a 60g penalty per rim for the piece of mind!

Just out of interest, how are you finding the paint finish on yours?? Mine is terrible and marks really easy!

It is soft, I've managed to scuff a large amount of the top tube to a matt finish after a very muddy ride at the Forest of Dean. I've now got heli tape on it and a few other bits, but don't care, it rides so well!
  • Thought I'd post a cheeky comment here to pop the 7 or 8 Soul threads on the one page together! ;-)
The pain on mine scuffed down to matt very quickly too but polished up fine and is taped up, replaced the tape a couple of times now and is still shiney underneath!
    Timmo.

So the new wheels have had a couple of rides and I'm liking them alot. Stiffer than the 717's and I've not noticed any rear tyre wobble roll like I did with the 717's, assuming due to the extra rim width. Couple of pics with the superstar 9mm thru axle:

And the Haven bars I got when Merlin where knocking them out cheap:

And a pretty crap pic of the bike as it stands:

Very nice bike, nice spec too.

What do you make of the superstar axle? Contemplated getting one for my soul build which I'll hopefully finish this week :D Seems to me that one of the nice things about the soul is a bit of comfy flex in the back, does the axle not detract from that?

Oh yeah, and how's the shifting at the front with the blackspire ring?

Can't wait to get mine done!!

    Cheers fella!

The superstar is on the front so couldn't advise on the rear but assume your right about it detracting from the souls give, which is nice. As for for the blackspire, I don't notice any difference from the original shimano rings.

Finally got some new tyres, Nobby Nic Snake Skin Pacestars, so now fully tubeless. Went on and up with a track pump really easy.

First ride out on a weekend in the Lakes, coming down the Whinlatter south loop decent and I get that squishy feeling in the rear, look down and yep, a rock has pierced through in the tread, wouldn't seal so a tube went in. Now patched, though I've still got a very slow puncture, but I can live with that.

Also got the blue cable ends, blue dust caps (I found these in my roadie saddle pack attached to my spare tube) and a blue superstar lock ring, pretty sad but I like it! I've also just put on a cheap (£5.50) battered inline seatpost on to test if inline is any good as I really fancy a dropped, in the shaped of a KS Lev.
