I guess its lucky he is not going to go to BMC racing as was the original rumour it would be an uphill struggle to get them to ride Specialized!!

Meanwhile, a Pro Team that already rides Specialized, and who may be one rider short of a GT team in 2012, is waiting in the wings . . .

One thing seems to have passed everyone by here - if Cav is on an endorsement with Spesh, why can he be allowed to wear Nike shoes?

Can't he just ride a blank bike, like Boardman in his bits on ITV?

I would guess that's not the point...Spesh want him crossing the line on the Champs Elysee (sp) with a bike that shouts SPECIALIZED not just on an unbranded Pinerello after a few adverts in Cycling Plus...

wrt the shoes, I would guess that the contract he has is very specific - No rider will use equipment that isnt right for them...

It doesn't really work though maybe he should wear a mask so we don't know its him.

Nike have sponsored him since the days when he rode a Scott, for shoes primarily. Nike don't make bikes or helmets, so that deal is up for grabs.

Sean Kelly used to ride in puma shoes that were blacked out and three White adidas stripes put down the side.

I reckon he will go to sky with them paying him extra to cover the loss of his specialised deal. He'd win on a bloody Raleigh grifter anyway.

And meanwhile, for the price of a couple of whispered rumours in the right ears, a story that probably had feck-all basis in fact has kept Cav's name at the top of the news pile for another week.
His managers must be loving this - it's cheaper than advertising.

Now that was likely a more controversial conflict. Puma was started by Rudolf and Adolf "Adi" Dassler but they fell out. Adi saw his ar$e and started Adidias and the pair reputedly never spoke again.

Why all the fuss about riding a Spec? He's only been with them for this season hasn't he? I always thought bikes went with the team rather than an individual rider and that riders only got to do personal deals on things like shoes and possibly helmets?

True, but the best bike manufacturers will want the best riders on their bikes. This means getting them into a team they sponsor.

An interesting article on Cycling News this morning (sorry can't do a link on my phone). Sky nothing has been signed, but they have a verbal agreement. Lefevre denying any involvement.

A verbal contract is not worth the paper it's written on.

He'll go to Astana. Or Saxo

Anyone else slightly depressed by the prospect of at least three sets of Specialized bikes in the pro peloton? At least there's only one Trek team left.

I like it when each manufacturer has it's own team. I always take more interest in the different looks each has.

I am a little bored of Spec bikes and never been keen on Treks. I own 2 Felt bikes but that was more to do with both being really good deals for good bikes at the time.

I never even knew he had a Nike deal so thats money poorly spent, apart from replica TdF jerseys I haven't even seen any Nike cycling kits for years, so whats the point? If you ask me its all about agents and getting the most cash.....

Cav 'I'd love to ride with Sky but Nike give me lovely free hoodies and trainers'

Sky 'Ok what if we give you another £250,000 to buy some nice Adidas trainers?'

Cav 'Oh go on then where do I sign'

On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and

I recall reading about a talented footballer who stalled and stalled signing a contract, holding out for more money. He ended up seriously injured and thus had no deal the following year.

    There's always Endura, Cav.

I hope Cav doesnt go to Sky -

it will ruin any chance in the grand Tours, be it the Giro, TdF or the Vuelta,

What with the Climbers that they are aquiring i think its a matter of time before they win one.

Uran, Heano (sic), Froome, Wiggins, Rogers. then guys like Flecha, Thomas, Knees, for the flats - what about EBH and Swift?

Cav needs a whole team and i dont want that team to be sky and for them to be flat stages in GT' glory hunters.

Aye, Telekom always seemed to do alright with Zabel and Ullrich, didn't they?

And what fine upstanding Citizens they are.

Dont get me wrong - i know cav can wheel jump his way to a win with the best of them and he can get over some small hills (M-SR) but if he goes to a GT he will want to be the udisputed Team leader and i'd rather sky go for GC than Points and stage wins.

I though Tony Martin Joined OPQS to become a GC man - if Cav signs for them that wont happen - he'll just do what he did at HTC like the rest of the guys they have signed from them. Work for Cav.

  • Cav and Wiggins in teh same team is always going to be a tough call, personally I'd go for team glory via Wiggo than personal glory aka Cav. And I'm a massive Cav fan, but prefer to se Wiggo win the TdF than Cav pick up 5 more stages and no yellow jersey.

There is no reason why they can't do both.

With Wiggins in the team they won't chase down breaks all day like HTC did. With Wiggins in the team Sky will have a second string to their bow in a way that HTC never did, so other sprint teams won't be able to just leave the chase. Green Edge being in the Tour would be huge for Sky.

Wiggins, Froome, Uran, Rogers, Sivtsov, Flecha, EBH, Eisel, Cav.

More than good enough to do both jobs.

And Merckx won the won the general classification, points classification and mountains classification at the Tour in 1969! Can't see what the problem is?

    :D
  • I think Greenedge will be replacing HTC as the sprint chain having looked at their roster. If this does happen then Cav won't need a full train, 2-3 should do it
  • Cav signs for Yeovil Leisure, Cycling and Touring Club (YLCTC).

Won't that now become Yeovil Leisure, Cycling and Touring Club presented by Specialized (YLCTCPBS)?

Thats correct, and its not gone down with some club members, who traditionally have always ridden Raleigh's and Claud Butlers.

EDIT:- Sorry, duff informationn there, apparently YLCTCPBS have always ridden either Emelle or Appollo bikes.
