Sciatic pain - don't sleep on one side

I have been plagued for several years with Sciatic pain, I had to give up running, but it has still caused me problems, and it's just not nice being in permanent pain.
Anyway, it was bad recently, then about 2 weeks ago I changed my sleep position.
For many years, I have slept exclusively lying on my left side ( the side where I get the sciatic pain ).
Now I am alternating each side, sleeping roughly half the night on each side.
The sciatic pain has completely disappeared.
Obviously this could be just be coincidence, but if you have any trouble with sciatic pain and sleep on one side, I would certainly suggest giving it a go!
I did some internet searching, and while there is some general advice on sleeping position, nowhere did I find this specific suggestion*. I'd be interested if this is previously known.
* Edit : after some more searching, I see this is suggested at http://www.squidoo.com/sleeptipsforsciaticandbackpain
