    The whole thing lost credibility when Ryan Giggs won it thanks to thousands of Man U fans voting. Nothing against Giggs, but he hardly did much the year he won it.

    Maybe if every cycling fan in the UK votes for Cav he might have a chance, but I suspect Darren Clarke will win.

    Team GB Road Race for Team of the Year, but more likely England Cricket for winning ashes and slaughtering the Indians.

    Maybe they had inside info concerning his off the pitch stamina and thought he deserved it for that. I'm not sure what you say is true, surely they'd be a Liverpool based campaign to organise a voting block for anyone but Giggs. Since it's essentially a popularity contest, a footballer would win almost every year but for tribalism amongst football fans.
