Utter F***ers.
I'm just up the road, so in the unlikely event that I see the worthless scrotes, could you popup a picture of the bike?1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I hope their pants are infested with fleas and a plague of locus decend on their home.
Although being in Essex I suspect this may have already occured :roll:Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -
It's why I have three locks on my bike. Two D locks (one is an Abus Granite X) and a cable lock. D lock on each wheel as I have a Rohloff and Schmidt dyno hub.
It's worth spending some decent money on locks and even an alarmed lock. There's lots of scum around these days, cars are no longer easy prey, they've moved onto bikes.
I'm hoping you're insured?0 -
sucks. I'm only down the road near Old Street. Lots of bikes do go missing around here0

We are insured but maybe not worth claiming, it wasn't mega money....not the point though, it was her everyday transport.
The bike is normally D-locked and cabled around both wheels. Today for the first time there were too many bikes where she locks it and she couldn't get the d-lock on. It's our fault I know, but circumstances etc... Well I won't be moaning at her...just got a text from the train..."really miss my bike".0 -

Photos and Frame No's is the way forward. One of the guys at my local Cycle Club had two bikes stolen recently, and the Police managed to recover one - and arrest the miscreant - because of the owner kept a photo of the actual bike and a record of the frame number. Gotta be worth it - I'm going out to do mine now!Raymondo

I have the frame number, and it was security etched by the Police a few months ago at a local show.0 -
I'm gutted for all four of you (you, Mrs EC, ec and the bike).
Head down to the bike sales on Brick Lane on sunday morning (get there early) and keep an eye out for it.
Apparently loads of stolen bikes turn up there.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

Sad times, I know exactly how that feels...my 1st bike only lasted 8 days in London. Bought the 100 quid Kryptonite lock the next day.
Take the front wheel off and lock it to the back. Just makes it that bit more tricky to nick.
After all, the sad fact is that your lock is only ever a deterrent0 -
If I was a judge and they were caught and put in front of me, I would lock them up and throw away the key, let the f*ckers starve to death.0
-
I feel your pain. Watch Ebay as you say. Mine got nicked and appeared on Ebay. Got it back, but really had to pester the police to get it done.
Good luck.0 -
Reported the theft to the police last night (by dialling 101). This morning they called back with a crime reference number. They told me to look out on Gumtree and Ebay and contact them immediately if I spot the bike. They also said they would be checking CCTV.
Not getting my hopes up but just saying that it was a positive experience dealing with the Police, at least they sounded concerned. They said that having the frame number and having the bike etched was great as they do recover a lot of bikes that they cannot trace back to the owners.0 -

there are Police auctions in Liverpool for stolen recovered bikes who the Police haven't been able to find their owners

About five years ago my car got broken into. I called the police and they said that they would send out a fingerprint team and check CCTV.
A few hours later they told me I could drive the car but to try not to touch where the thieves may have touched (door handle, steering wheel, gear stick, that sort of thing) so that they could get a decent finger print.
After a couple of days I hadn't heard back from them so I called and was told that the finger print team would call to arrange a time to finger print the car and that the CCTV cameras in the area were being reviewed by a 'specialist team'.
I'm still waiting.
I'm sorry to say that I don't think the police will be of much use.FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

The thieves must have been out on a fiield trip in the City yesterday
My black 49cm Langster was also stolen in Mansion House at 15:52 yesterday.
Guy rides up on a MTB, chucks it and rides off on mine. It only takes about 20 seconds.
He is caught on CCTV and that info has been passed on to the police - as well as the bike he left behind.
The nice police woman who came to take my statement gave me a ref number along with a direct line.
I was told to call them if I spot my bike on e-bay/gumtree/Brick Lane and wait for them to take action.
Fingers crossed that justice prevails and we get our bikes back.0 -
Bad luck folks, really hope you recover the bikes. i'm having to leave my bike parked outside now. Hoping 2 D-Locks is enough, now considering buying one more though...

Continuing to scan Gumtree and Ebay and Bikeshed but for now...
Mrs EC has taken over one of my spare bikes, a hybrid that I used for towing the little one around on. Yes I do own a hybrid, that's out in the open now at least! It's a tad big for her but she likes riding it and it's kept her on the road. The seatpost wouldn't go down far enough so I had to cut some off the bottom, I told her I wouldn't do that for anyone else so she must be special!
I've secured another bike for her now that I'm building into a commuter. Managed to get a Cannondale SM500 in her size, anyone remember them, god they were the bike to have back on the nineties! It's still a great looking bike with the chunky aluminium tubes. Spent a few hours with T-Cut and polish, it's looking good.
It has roller cantilever brakes, not that impressed with them so will convert to V's. Placed an order over the weekend - pair of Marathon Pluses, narrow tubes, handlebar grips, mudguards, rack, lights, and a computer.
The people at her office had a collection for her just after the bike was stolen so we are funding it from that. What a nice thing for them to do, it made her day.0 -
