All of the house bills are split proportionally, this means i choose to pay more but i earn more so it is fair, wife RE would prefer to pay 50:50 but i dont see equal as fair in this respect.
the way we do it is to take responsibility for the individual bills which need to be paid to cover the running of a home
we have our own debts and other bills to pay, those are our own business and we deal with them ourselves.
the rest of our money is our own to get spent, blown, wasted as we see fit.
at no point do we have a shared account or anything like that.0 -
Myself and wife REME do have separate accounts and a joint one. We both put wage proportioned amounts into the joint account that pays for all the bills, savings, mortgage and food as I earn a lot more than her and she's sacrificed her career to follow me around the country and move very 18 to 24 months (sheepsteeth will understand).
Anything we have left over is ours to spend on what we like - similar to sheepsteeth. We do negotiate our big spends such as cars, bikes and holidays. This has always worked well for us.
We also have two sofas, more than two glasses/mugs/plates etc and even a extra bed in the house (despite having no kids) as we have friends that come and visit, eat and drink and then stay over! Imagine that Fully-sprung.+ 1001 posts reset by the cruel cruel moderators!

Don't want her seeing what I spend on the stuff I like..."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0
