So, a thread about someone asking for help with problems about iTunes, turns into another pointless receptacle for insane rabid mac carzies to shoot off at random people for no reason.

Someone - Ray I think - suggested that it was my PC and not itunes thast was to blame - Sorry but no. I have no issues with my PC for anything other than when it comes to it interfacing with iTunes - which considering its iTunes for Windows shows some problems.
As for converting the files to something WMP friendly - tried it - but iTunes wont let you - Apple is watching you to save you from copyright infringement.
Like I say - I'm going to buy the two films on DVD and get itunes off my computer.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -

It's nothing to do with "Copyright Infringement" Windows Media Player will rip audio in .WMA format by default, until you change the preferences. iTunes will rip audio in .M4A by defualt, until you change the preferences.
However WMP and iTunes both support .MP3 and .WAV format by default.
The same applies to movies, there are various playback formats. Apple's iTunes supports .MOV, .MP4, (H-264 which is an open standard) and of course .M4V (which is essence is identical to MP4 so you can rename the extension)
WMP can play back MP4, MPG and AVI (plus some I know I've missed)
You can get DIVX plugins for WMP or use DIVX, VLC etc. to support other playback formats
As for your "Apple is watching you" comment, totally inaccurate. In both WMP and iTunes as well as most other playback software, you have the choice share info with Microsoft, Apple or whoever the software vendor is.0 -
Just forget the proprietary MS & Apple stuff. Plenty of excellent free / open source stuff out there that will rip whatever you want without restriction, convert to all the main formats, and if you stick to DRM free downloads and/or rip from your CD/DVD to non-DRM'd formats you can happily do what you like with the stuff.
Audio, I still prefer to buy the CDs and rip them lossless to Flac, store everything on my NAS and convert as necessary (or more than often just stream Flac direct to one of my Squeezeboxes). A few download sites do Flac though, but CDs become so dirt cheap in a short time, they're cheaper than the downloads.
DVDs and Blu-Rays with "bonus copy". Balls to that, I'll copy it myself un-DRM'd thank you very much then I can truly play anywhere. Not that I do much, but I'd much rather the disc than a DRM download.0 -

I can't remember the last time I actually paid for music.
Are there any MP3 players/pmp devices that support Flac?Formally known as Coatbridgeguy0 -

FLAC files are larger than their MP3 equivalents. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Is it possible to turn the annoying noises off in iTunes?
And no, I don't mean my Bjork collection
Everytime I click on something I get a stupid "shwoop" noise, and there doesn't seem to be any way to turn it off, seems strange that something meant for playing music would, by default, make annoying noises over the music you're using it to listen to :?

As for FLAC? Bollocks to FLAC. It's a niche codec only used by a small group of particularly elitist geeks.0 -
Flac just makes it flexible. It's an archive format as far as I'm concerned, but I can stream flac direct at full quality to my Hi-Fi and other kit around the house without having to convert it to some other format. My MP3 player, being non-Apple and fully of geekiness, also supports Flac so no need to convert there either. Most PC players will do Flac.
But if I want to convert to MP3 I can, or AAC or anything else. Some day down the line when some other format is popular I can just convert again from Flac to whatever is the thing of the day without loss. If my CDs were MP3 I'd be looking at some loss when converting and may need to re-rip them.
And anyway, my NAS with 4TB of storage, plenty of space to stick all my CDs on, possibly even all my DVDs!. No more discs, stream and play anywhere.
Squeezebox BTW - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squeezebox ... sic_player)0 -
I still say "MEH" to FLAC. I'll stick to WAV, (or purely because my own setup is media-centre based, WMA lossless).
In these days of ever-expanding hard discs, WAV is not really a problem any more.0 -
I hate iTunes, the library is just totally gash, can't sort by track number so if like me you listen to a lot of DJ mixes split into tracks the track order is completely wrong as it sorts by album artist then artist.... The only way to get it to sort by track number is to delete other tags from the MP3 but then I don't want to do that because my tags work well for every single other library software I use (professional sound applications and home network sharing).
The single most annoying thing about OS X is no cut and paste feature; have to have loads of "finder" windows open at any one time when working with files or constantly copying, then deleting old files/folders....
Other than that, OS X is an awesome bit of software; for desktops I like windows 7, for laptops, I will never have another windows laptop ever again, rubbish battery life (unless you buy a super huge battery doubling the size of the laptop), and poorly made.... My white macbook of 4 years has only needed a new battery and charger (was on 700 charge cycles).
Songbird is my favourite media library and also can play podcasts0 -
yeehaamcgee wrote:In these days of ever-expanding hard discs, WAV is not really a problem any more.
A small saving given disc space these days unless you have a really massive collection, but it's less to back up and smaller files to stream over a wireless network (or even the Internet).
WMA lossless, FLAC, WAV, all the same really. Only difference is the file size.
I could archive in WMA lossless also, but it's more proprietary and ties me to MS a bit.0 -
I don't get the who thing against mp3.... nearly everything with a music player supports playback of mp3 (car stereo, phones, tablets etc.)
a song encoded at 320kbps versus a flac or wav file is almost impossible to notice any difference in the quality... Certainly I'll be using mp3 regardless of the counter argument; its easy, well supported and portable (doesn't take me 5 mins per CD to transfer 20 tunes over my home network for example).0 -
