What's your talent?

My daughter asked me what my talent was the other day. An odd question I grant you (and presumably spurred by a collection of fairy stories in which each fairy has a particular talent) but it got me thinking, and it was a very hard question to answer.

I can do a lot of things to a reasonable level of competency, but what would I pick as something I was better at than anyone else I know? (Which would I guess, be the definition of ‘talent’). The only thing I could think of is building / fixing things against all the odds using whatever I have available in a McGyveresque manner.

So, playing the spoons? Faking an orgasm? Driving a tank? Chasing a cheese down a steep slope? What’s your power awesome? ™ apparently

I can fit the end of a can of redbull in my mouth, have to be careful where I show that talent off though.

I'm quite handy on the drums (or was anyway)

That's because you weigh the same as a 10-year-old.

That is surely because of your grossly inferior weight, giving you an unfair advantage during acceleratio and allowing you to win "last of the late brakers", no?

I was born cross-eyed, and although I had an operation to straighten things up (scars on my eyeballs = nails), one eye does tend to swing out a touch and my binocular vision is a bit rubbish. As a consequence I can choose which eye is dominant. Does mean I'm crap at judging distances within arms reach (you should see me trying to pour a bottle of wine).

I can waggle my ears too.

Pfft. People call big rugby players talented for being able to smash into other big (ugly) players.

I've beaten other women who weigh less!

Next you'll be saying Usain Bolt isn't talented, he was just born with amazing muscles that are perfect for sprinting :P

    I'm remarkably similar.

I can pick up a golf club and do reasonably well at the pitch and putt. I can ride a bike pretty well, I can play football without embarrasing myself, I can do basic car mechanics, I can replace bits in a computer. But I'm not 'great' at any of those things, and I'm woeful at anything musical!

Out of context that looks very very bad.

When you weigh as much as your namesake RC we'll leave you to it or rather get the remote and drive you about the place...

Pfft. I'll let all the lightweight climbers in the Tour and ToB know their climbing isn't a talent they're just skinny!

I'll give you their love on Sunday!
