Why do ITV show long boring clips of no action in the race, and not so meaningful or entertaining sprints,as they let the sprint leader win so no sprint anyway, and then cut out most of the final climb, which did actually have some action on it.,

The highlights style from the production company covering modern Tours of Britain has been this way for as long as I remember - I agree it becomes maddening when they give the same emphasis to the neutralised roll-out as to the last kilometre / race-breaking climb, etc!

I'm guessing it's all part of a deal to ensure a specified amount of TV exposure for the depart locations.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but the graphics showing time gaps don't seem to show the remaining race distance. Pretty crucial stuff when there's a breakaway...

Considering there's an hour slot, they do a particularly poor job of capturing the key aspects of the race, what with with the teleport-esque "jumps" en route. Contrast with the excellent job done in the Vuelta with only a 30 min slot.

It all comes across as an amateurish shower, which I can barely be @rsed to watch...
  • When I was watching last night, Brian Smith was talking about the climb over Penderyn Moor and the next thing we were heading towards the finish (oh and they completely ignored the split on Stage 3 - okay if it was live coverage and they'd gone to adverts but this was highlights for godsake).

The coverage is better than the pathetic hour long highlights of the whole race we used to get with the BBC but it could be a lot better. I almost feel they need an extra half hour to get all the obligatory coverage out of the way and also cover the bits of the race we want to see. They need to strike a balance between keeping viewers entertained and obliging the sponsors but the emphasis should be towards the viewers. I have been impressed with Brian Smith and feel he's a good addition as is Yanto Barker who is getting better as the week goes on.
