oh yes, hoping to, although I'll only be doing the 2 hour races, not man enough for the 4 hour ones :oops:0
-
I might pop up for one or two, but thetford in the winter just kills bikes, wet sandy grit, just a recipie for new kit0
-
Yes most definitely as well as D2D. I've not done then before but from what I've heard they're real good. I wouldn't worry about only riding for 2 hours, 4 hours is a long time to ride flat out, even if it is an 'enduro'.0
-
Def the 2h race. As said, 4h flat out is mega.
I have been to Thetford a few times around red and black routes but nothing special to be honest. As far as im aware the races dont incorporate either of these and use totally different tracks.
I think it gets fairly muddy and boggy there over winter as well.http://www.mudsweatgears.co.uk

The Winter Series is great, its spread all over the best bits of the forest, and is very popular, this will be my 4th series in the 2 hour, and at the moment i cant decide wether to step up to the 4 hour, or stick with the 2 hour, year on year i have got better results and if i stick, i hope to break the top 30, (finished 32nd 3 times last winter).
Dusk till Dawn moved to High Lodge to become a bit more public, and it was really good to see more people watching than previous years, but it did mean we hit some of the more used stuff, and with the horrendous amounts of rain, that did mean they were very turned over by the end.
See you there.0 -

Yeah hope to do the 2hr see if I can break the top 50 in each race and maybe a top 40 in one of them0
-
I'll be entering... but only doing the fun ride, not fit enough to be doing 2 hours solo!
I ride up at Thetford every Tuesday evening with a group of friends, rained very heavy this week; spent 3 hours cleaning, stripping, cleaning, re-greasing and re-building last night!
Night riding at Thetford turns it into a completely different place, so much more fun in the dark!0 -

Great, well I will be sure to say hi each time you pass me again this year!!
Thats if i can makle it... need the dates!!!0 -
D2D and then 4hr in the WS, a bit less frantic than the 2 hr in my opinion...0
-
Just been given the go-ahead so I'll be entering the 2 hour race in November with you lot!0
-
Just entered the whole series 40+ 2 hour races, 1st race on November 6th, don't think I'll but upto full fitness but still good to be out doing it0

Stylish I agree that the series is great, been doing it for years but never cracked the top 50 mens 2 hr. I am fitter this year and hope to have a better series this winter. Have you got any tips? what sort of quantity/type of riding do you do in a week?
cheers0 -
I had planned on doing all the races but had a varicose vein op 2 weeks ago. I'm going to attempt a gentle ride this weekend but don't think I'll manage 2 hours in early November.0

All signed up for the full series 8) I have been to Thetford a few times on the red and black trails but not ventured of the beaten track so to speak. For those that have raced this series before, whats the course like with regards to hills, overtaking oppertunities and general conditions?http://www.mudsweatgears.co.uk

Flat and relentless. Yeah sure there aren't any hills, but there's nowhere you can go 'yeah I'll recover here.'0 -
Ollie like he says its not easy, the pace is pretty frenetic so even though its flat, its tiring. What hills there are do become pretty punishing after a few laps too. I love it, the atmosphere is great and although its in the winter its competitive but not excessively. Most riders are just out to do personal bests.
If you're good, overtaking can be quite an issue, you'll need to be at the front (they do grid the top 30 i think).
The fun group is just shorter, same track. And they set off last so have the least chance of being caught, but the fast 4hrs and some 2hrs will.0 -
Johnnycash01, i have learnt a hell of alot over the last 3 years, i am lucky enough to ride with some great team mates, and we have just pushed each other along as time has gone by, i also have the added luxury of being able to call Stephen James (A W Cycles & all round fast chap) a close friend, he has guided me, and helped me alot with training and diet, which is a real help, but i suppose the best advice i can give is just go for it and enjoy yourself.
As for riding, i dont do as much as i would like, as like many others i have to juggle all my riding around 2 young kids and a hectic job, but on average in the summer i do 2 long fast road rides a week, and 3 hours on the mtb at the weekend, and then in the winter i will do 4 sessions a week on the turbo, now these i hate with a passion, but they really have made a difference, they hurt like hell but its all starting to pay off, as my goal for this year is a top 20 in the 2 hour, and rest assured i will be going flat out to get it!0 -
Did the series last year and really wanting to sign up again this year but am having transport issues at the mo, don't suppose anyone will be travelling from the midlands...0

Good going !
Depending on how Nov 6th goes I may do the same.
I like the Thet Red Run and parts of the Black when its not too chewed, but have never been off piste - should be interesting.
Having never raced before, how many laps on average will we do in 2 hours ?0 -
The are no hills at Thetford, the worst you get is a very gradual slope.
The courses are pretty much what you'll find everywhere else in the forest, sand, roots, fire road and usually a bomb hole or two.
The amount of laps obviously depends on the length of the course. Plan for 6 to 8.0
