The more intelligent of you may have come to the conclusion, based on my chosen title that after many miles of safe-ish riding the day has finally come.

That's right, Donkey is dead, the bike is totaled.

I was coming down a dip towards a fenced off river towards a bridge on the way to school, the brakes didn't work so I couldn't slow down and the ground was wet so I slid to the left. I tried to turn right to avoid the fence but caught the fence with the end of the handle bars which threw me along the path and the bike onto the road, I got away with a sad face shaped scratch on my thumb, a cut on my other thumb a grazed ankle and a bump on the head. Not much really, and not even ripped trousers! But the bike has a buckled front wheel, gears bent in towards the wheel, the frame bent where the rear mech is mounted and the handlebar has been knocked off centre. It's not feasible to fix the bike, and all because the company I sent it in to couldn't be arsed to fix the brakes as they were paid to do.

I have to say though, I do like the sad face scratch, it's quite funny.

The damage you describe sounds like about an hour's work to fix.

    Dont encourage him.

    Bye!
  • The dustcaps are OK, but I don't know how to fix the wheel, and I'm not paying to get it fixed again.

were you trying for a darwin award?
  • Nope. I was going down the hill and turned off the road into the end of the junction to go onto the footpath, but the brakes didn't work so I was going too fast, I slid on the nobbly paving slabs and couldn't turn away from the fence no matter how hard I tried, so I ended up clipping the fence by about an inch and it sent me flying off, and the bike onto the road.

  • You said your wheel was buckled didn't you? That means your spokes are bent, rendering them useless/broken.

Does this mean you have no more bike? Can the mods delete his account then?
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

all because the company I sent it in to couldn't be arsed to fix the brakes as they were paid to do.
So they couldn't be arsed to fix them and you couldn't be arsed to test them? Great combination.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I would miss FS, suggest we donate some parts.

Could be rubbish parts, maybe someone wants to unload an Orange 5.

wouldn't that mean they'd have to delete 2/3 of people on here then?
  • Sucks about the loss, but now time to get something bigger and better!

So basically, you're going to stop riding because you failed to check your brakes worked before a ride and you lost control and crashed?

As the dust caps are ok, can I have them?

If you cover the postage, I'll happily take the frame off you.

The frame is the best part!

No, you don't need to delete my account, I have my blue Dawes hardtale (so maybe an account rename? )

I haven't stopped riding, and I went faster down the hill today, and didn't crash.

Yeah, I might get the hammer out sometime if I'm in the right mood, just see what happens.

It's not buckled that much to do any damage to the spokes I don't think, it still goes between the forks easily enough.

The dustcaps are alright, and they're on my Dawes now, so p!ss off.

I got away with hardly any injuries, and not even a ripped pair of trousers.

I haven't had a real look at the bike yet, but it looks to me like all it needs is bending back into shape.

I've got new break pads for the back.

    I'm getting bigger rotors.

Thanks for reading, hope this answers something, if it doesn't that's your fault for having such stupid questions.

All it answers is that you should be a prime candidate for the Darwin Awards as was pointed out earlier.

As for the story of crashing I'm sure we all have had crashes and if we posted about them all the forum would be awash with similar drivel.
I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!
