A new 2010 Kona Minxy at a VERY good price :lol:

Destined to be my silly stuff / Megavalanche bike (still keeping the 5 for my normal riding) 8)

Yes, I know, extravagant blah blah but it's a NEW SHINY BIKE :D:D:D

(Huge thanks for everyones advice and comments on this matter by the way - even if I largely ignored everyone and did what I wanted anyway  )

Have to say, I'd have just got a travel adjust fork for the 5. Did you test the Kona?

No - ladies specific bikes are rather tricky to find for testing..... Have done lots of research re the geometry etc. You have a 7 day 'change of mind' period with distance selling though don't you? Obviosly I appreciate that there are limitations to this!

Yep, distance selling regs state you can send it back, and if in the terms and conditions it doesn't mention you have to pay for the postage, then they have to arrange to pick it up!

How much did you pay for it?

£1100 - all new, fully built and delivered to my office :D

About £600 off the original price.... Please don't tell me if you have seen one cheaper!

I'm very happy with the deal and CAN'T WAIT for it to arrive now!!

Not seen one cheaper no... but more than I would have paid lol. They are bloody heavy at nearly 38lbs, and not really any tougher than your Orange. Sorry to be harsh, but spare wheels and a new fork on the Orange would be way better, for a lot cheaper!

    As I said, i'm happy!!

I spent a lot of time, effort and money getting my 5 exactly how I want it and I didn't want to mess about with it and / or risk trashing it.

Anyway, just as gold stuff makes your bike faster, more bikes clearly makes me more attractive and interesting, right :lol::lol::lol:

  • Nice bike, i would say however, i dont know what brakes you are used to on the 5 but the Shimano M575 Disc are very very bad.

Thanks - I have heard that before :(

I have Formula K24 Oro's on the 5 which are excellent, so i'm guessing these might be a bit of a shock then!

Might keep my eyes peeled for some more Formula brakes.....

  • I ran M575s for about a year. They coped, just, but that was after upgrading discs to 203mm and they still required a death grip. Not suitable for steep stuff at all.

Thanks to the wonders of Ebay, I have found a set of Formula K24's for a good price. Any reason why they would not fit on the Minxy?

I ride with 180 / 160 rotors on the 5 - would it be worth beefing these up? To what? 200 / 180? I am pretty light rider (about 55Kg), but wouldn't mind some more stopping power on this bike...

    Thanks :D

  • Certainly - was there a few weeks back.

You need to search around as there's a fair bit of hidden stuff - but once you get to know where it all is there's about 3 or 4 downhill trails where a couple you can go in different directions making it a bit more interesting.

Good luck getting your new beast back up though!
  • its well worth going, its a great little area right on your doorstep.

nothing is signposted - you'll need to search out the routes. there's some good stuff near the kennels, and some more off the path right by the motorway bridge accessed from the chilworth arms. my only complaint is that a lot of the jumps are doubles, there's very few tabletops, and rarely much room to either line up or get them wrong.

early morning is the best time to go (no locals around)
  • Except - her doorstep is Fordingbridge. Not Southampton as her location indicates!
