there isnt anything wrong with commuting to work on a bike so much having a forum about it, like its a specific sport!
i mean i rode in today on the fsr and it was nice to be in the sun but i did it so i can hit the trail straight from work without going home, nothing to do with racing people to work.

I haven't got any of those things, amidoinitrite??
I have a matt black Scott hybrid with gay side bars and I go along canals, country lanes and through country parks, I get to spend an hour and a half outside every day as that's all I am allowed to have before they make me put on my white coat...

Parrot, don't feed the trolls
We get it, you live with the sheep in the hills and ride mountinbikes, most of us live in flat cities and ride other bikes, not owning a car is lifestyle choice, a bit like sheep shagging, not for everyone.0 -
Most of us ride several bikes, in fact. But travelling to work is not a passtime.0
-
Indeed we do, did you miss the part about lifestyle choice, wait, I'm repeating myself.
Whatever, my 40 mile a day trip is smart training, the fact its on the way to work is irrelevant, its great use of my time & whether I'm tackling Ironman next year or Afan in a few weeks its miles and when your a cyclist miles matter whatever your steed. Now if your going to ask me why the commuting forum exists again, pleas press back.0 -

Sorry, next time the internet wants to create a forum on anything I'll make sure it checks in with you to make sure it meets your standards eh."That's it! You people have stood in my way long enough. I'm going to clown college! " - Homer0 -

I'm sorry but anybody who rides a bike, whatever shape or form, is not normal
You should try leaving this box once in a while, there's more to BR than meets the eye, you can't have 22000 posts all in once place can you?! :shock:0 -
but thats the thing iPete
i post in the Mountain Biking section because i want advice on a Mountain Biking, i post in the road section when i'm riding my road bike and need advice. When i am commuting i dont post in the commuting section as all the advice i could want is in either road or mountain bike.0 -

Its a crudcatcher & cakestop all rolled into one, anyway i'm not a freaking spokesperson, you'll find me in any section on here, touring, mtb, commuter general, roadie, folders, triathlon, girls in knitwear... branch out a little but oddly i get the best advice on any question in commuter general over all the others.. oh and touring, they are a very nerdy bunch..0 -

That's because nobody there has a sense of humour, so you only get answers.0 -
Nah, its safe to say its a trait of all parts of this forum!0

I don't live in the hills, I live in a city, I choose to go mountain biking because I enjoy it it's already been said commuting is a way of getting to work, I am sure there is not that many "bus" or "tube" forums...its grey geeks in grey suits trundling a sad lonely road to work....
ref the sheep shagging, it's not for me but I guess what you do on holiday when you get out of the city is up to you.....0 -

I don't care for being coarse. Unladylike and unnecessary.
I'm sure it's enjoyed by a certain market, but not one I'm targeting.
Ask Sheepsteeth about his neccessary.....

And the reason I have so many posts is because we all enjoy talking crap on here, rather than talk about our journeys to work.
If you don't want to be a spokespoerson, stop pretending to be one by getting all defensive.

If the commuting forum didn't exist where would all those tales of violent encounters with angry cabbies, car owners, and the like end up?
Also, it seems to be very London-centric. That would explain a lot of the anal attitudes. As for us being compared to immature "frat boys" (seriously...? Are we going to start using US high school/college terminology? Is this what we have become?), We have parts of the forum where there is serious advice/discussion. The Crudcatcher, though, is all about talking nonsense. If that's not your cup of tea then that's cool; discussions on trouser clips and panniers aren't for us either.
Lastly, I wouldn't say there is a clique mentality here at all. If you come on the board and post shite then you're called out for it. It's a learning curve for new folk but I would say the MTB section here is far easier to establish yourself in than other sections/websites (not to say other sections here aren't welcoming...when I've asked questions in the roadie section they were great).Formally known as Coatbridgeguy0 -

um yes even MTBing is Cliquey Commuting/road/MTB are all cliquey, thats what happens to forums, to Usenet, IRC and so on.
people unless they have real problems don't tend to hang about forums to ask questions, they do it to chat nothing more nothing less.
case in point I MTB have done for decades, I rarely post to MTB as I rarely have questions.0 -
"cliquey" for me suggests "closed shop". I've experienced that in various places but found here very accessible. I suppose it's all subjective though.Formally known as Coatbridgeguy0

Pretty clear that some people get the CC, quite a few don't, hence the 'looking down their noses' type comments from a few people who take themselves a bit too seriously.
