And they're back in the pack
  • Game plan like, if indeed it was a game plan, was doomed to failure.

Not once have Sky thought to send a man up the road.

    Poor.

So Froome and Cobo in top 4 with bonus seconds to play for, assuming Anton takes the 20, Froome could still gain up to 8 seconds if he finishes in front of Cobo, plus a few seconds if he could somehow drop him on the run in...

EDIT: back in the bunch, will need another plan!

Cobo and Froome clearly the best, but that was nowhere near enough to drop Cobo

And there's still 3 riders ahead, so no boni seconds

I'm guessing Geox wouldn't have allowed that

Sack whoever is dishing out the tactics for team sky would be a start...

    Very poor..

Anton gets it in his hometown - a Basque winning the first stage there after 33 years - not bad

I dont think Sky have anyone at this vuelta that is capable of getting up the road on this sort of stage. At the first sight of an incline it seems to be just Froome and Wiggins left. If they had any of the quys from the tour like G EBH fletch etc thean it might have been a plausible option.

Can't really criticise Sky's tactics there. They tried, they failed, but it was always going to be a long shot.

    agreed on that point....
  • A bit anti-climactic. Geox have all the bases covered.
  • Same time gap at the start of the climb, as when the group finished.
After all the promise of that first ascent.

Its a bit ignorant of the sport of professional cycle racing to suggest they could have done much else isn't it? Like all the fan boys saying that Wiggins and Froome should just time trial off the front of the pack. Best they can do is keep chipping away and hope they get a bit of luck somewhere down the line, otherwise they'll just have to settle for 2nd and 3rd and two stage wins (awful!)

No your right.. Its just frustrating..

I am guessing they have decided that its better to preserve their final GC status then sacrifice themselves. I can understand that..

Cobo seems to be strong enough to match them on most climbs, even if Wiggins had blown himself up with Froome on his wheel, I can't see how Cobo wouldn't have been one wheel further back and then just nicked any bonus seconds available for himself. They need a split in the pack - cross winds, crash, freak loss of concentration by Cobo - can't see it happening but if they keep going for it you never know. I reckon any tactical fail came before today, and was pretty understandable in all the circumstances.

What would sending a guy up the road have achieved today? Unless it was Wiggins it would have had absolutely zero effect on the stage.

It's the football equivalent of "they just gotta get the ball down and keep possession"..

A few riders tweeting that the smell and clouds of "Weed, Ganja, Dope" on the final climb was pretty nuts..

suppose that's what the Jamaica flags were all about!!

Half the Peloton thrown out of the race for testing positive for reacreational drugs would shakeup the GC I'd imagine :P
