Help choosing turbo trainer and/or rollers

Hi,

As the wet and cold winter months are coming up fast, I've been looking at buying a turbo trainer or rollers.
I think getting a turbo trainer and working more on my fitness when it's unrideable conditions outside and then getting rollers (at some point possibly over the winter) to improve my form is a better idea...?

I've been doing quite a lot of research/deliberating and my final options for a turbo trainer have come down to:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/elite-crono-mag-elastogel-turbo-trainer
or
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/cycleops-classic-mag-plus-turbo-trainer-with-shifter

They both have 5 resistance levels. The only difference I can see is that the Elite turbo has a gel roller which will be quieter.

The more research I done the more I wanted to spend on something that'd be more enjoyable (virtual reality trainer). Is there any accessories/software that would make it less boring?

Any help is appreciated!

Have a look at the Minoura V130 too (if you haven't already) - Evans have this at £119 at the moment...which is a bit of a bargain....

That is a very good deal! I'm just put off by the lack of reviews from anywhere at all!

Well, I just bought one, so I'll let you know in a few weeks.. ;)

To be fair, most of the Minoura stuff gets pretty good reviews and their kit seems to have a good rep. I couldn't find any reviews either, but for that price, a mag trainer with remote seemed too good to resist. Something else that swayed me was that it can also take 24 and 26 wheels, which means my kids can also use it....

As for rollers, I would suggest you don't need to look any further than the Tacx Antares. I've had a set for a couple of years now and they've been great....
  • Yep it's a pretty hard deal to resist!

Have you used it at all yet? If so, what's the noise level like?

If I was buying rollers I think I'd go the Antares too. Any reason why you've bought the turbo trainer when you already have rollers?

It hasn't arrived yet, so I can't answer...!

In terms of rollers + turbo - I bought the turbo partly for the kids to train on (they both want to do a lot more youth racing next year and a turbo is probably a better bet for them compared to rollers at their age) - plus it gives me another training option as well...

Ah ok well when it does, any feedback at all would be great!
