Lol, well in preparation of receiving my bike, I did a stock take on my cycling kit, and realised I didnt have a lot remaining and would need to get some thing for.my return to the bike.

Well the other day, a box arrived containing some goodies :D

2011-09-01133803.jpg

tights, socks, shoes, pedals, pump, saddlebag, water bottle and cage, computer, saddle bag, chain links, and the energy drink things were free.

Have a feeling I may still.need a saddle, as I dont know.if the supplied one will be comfortable for me.

  • I'm the same. I also find that acquisition of new stuff helps with motivation to train (well, that's what I tell the mrs. and I'm sticking to it...)
  • There is always (IMO) the new found impetus that comes with new kit.

I know it doesnt look like there is much there, but it cost a couple of hundred lol
  • Oh yes - frustratingly addicted to buying stuff. Also extends to other interest, cars, gadgets, hi-fi, music, computing, you name it, I’ll happily buy into it.

i had the same socks. They start to look tatty after a few washes. I've now started to pay more and have moved onto GORE socks. Much better :D

But yeh, spending is great. Today i spent approx £700..

Forgot the car needed a service & MOT. Car failed on the MOT meaning i needed 4x new tyres. Tyres, service + MOT = £500.

Then i bought some new bibshorts, a winter jersey, some innertubes, some handlebars and a multitool for another £200.

Best thing is, i'm medically not allowed on a bike until mid/end of Sept. :D
  • Well as none of it came from Wiggle, there wouldnt be any Haribo
  • but there are some high5 tablets :D:D from chainreactioncycles ;-)

edited: btw, recently I have ordered some haribos from wiggle and guess what... they gave me aluminium rollers extra, what a deal :D

Yeah, but don't you feel a little bit self-conscious at the start of an event when you've got new shoes and everyone else's have "seen action"? :D

Nope. because after using them once they arent new anymore. Plus I try and look after my kit so they will still look pretty good.
  • Fitting thread to come back home and find. I just bought a Garmin Edge 800 from my LBS. Just hope I don't get buyers remorse!

I've had a bike for not quite 4 weeks now. I've placed 2 orders with cycle-clothing.co.uk, 2 with wiggle, bought a coat from Halfords, bottle n cage from my LBS, track pump from Argos and I've just placed an order for a Garmin 800 from Amazon. From Monday next week Lidl have bike things in so that will be next....

Where does all of this stop? Bankruptcy court?

Nah, divorce court once the wife doesn't get her handbags anymore.

Luckily my wife hates cycles, but her mom always tells her just let me enjoy a decent jobby rather than smoking dope and drinking all day. It helps that my father in law is even crazier into bikes than me, and has built custom spec bikes totaling 30,000euros in the last year...

Buying is fun, my paycheck comes in, bills get paid, I put the savings for the wife and I aside, and spend the rest. Good life if you ask me :)

I've recently bought an Edge 800, and this week a lovely Santini LS jersey, Craft shower proof jacket and three pairs of Woolie Bollie socks turned up on my doorstep :D

Anyday now, my ltd edition Hoogerland T-Shirt should turn up too.

All I need now are some new bib tights and I'm sorted (for a while  )

Just got a new catologue in the post and am trying to justify spending over €300 on a pair of tights and a new winter training jacket. Fortunately/unfortunately I do not have to justify this to anyone else. If I can't be the best cyclist in town at least I'll be the best dressed.
  • Same for me, over the last week I've ordered new wheels, tyres, tubes, stem, bars, full length bib, winter jacket & base layer & bar tape.
Luckily most of it was covered with money I got for a recent birthday & am sitting here now thinking what saddle to get ...... :o

All the bills are paid, food in the cupboards, the other half is happy buying shoes, clothes & stuff, we both work hard for it so we enjoy it .........

New Reynolds wheels arrived today. :)

I'm very happy and didn't want to buy anything for almost half a hour.

Just realised I've still got the standard alloy bars and stem that came with my Scott.

I'll just check what's cheap on Merlin, I'm only looking mind.
  • Mudguards, tights, winter jacket, tubulars, cassette and cap all in decided in less than 10 minutes.... The funnest part is waiting for them to arrive...
  • Prefer getting rid of stuff tbh. Accumulated crap like old parts, tools, magazines and jerseys - happy to stick it all on Freecycle or TradeMe (NZ's version of eBay) and be shot of it. Too easy to waste money on stuff you don't need.

Yup. Had my bike pinched recently, so went to the LBS to buy some new light brackets for my other bike. Walked out with a new bottle cage, bidon, lock, cycling jersey and the aforementioned brackets. Plus a couple of freebie energy gels. I shouldn't need to buy anymore cycling gear for ooh...at least a week. Well, except a winter commuting bike.

    Not wanting to be pedantic, but I'm going to be;
You either bought a porte bidon and bidon, or a bottle cage and bottle. French or English ?

Nothing personal, but I do find it rather pretentious to use french words for no good reason.
As I said, nothing personal

Pretentious, moi? I'm just new to cycling, and thought that drinks bottles were called bidons. Didn't even realise it was French.
