You shouldn't be if you have the correct tyres. If you feel like you're going to crash at any second, then something isn't right.

Wet trails are more slippery. using the right tyre can alleviate that, but never eliminate it.

Clearly, but you shouldn't feel as if you're about to hit the deck at any given moment.

Hmmm I have up days and down days, But never really get hasstled by the XC trails at centers, there pretty tame.

But some days i feel in control fast and the way. But some days i feel ragged lose and on the edge of my control(prob doing about 3MPH lol).

Because he felt like joining in the conversation, is that alright with you?

Well, your quote makes no sense. He never said what you were claiming.

neither I think..... but got thoroughly wasted by two guys on my commute in this morning. I'm new to road biking, in fairness they were on a pinarello and a s-works road bikes, and I had just been on a early morning run....but, still, to be utterly blown into the weeds on a fast downhill, when I was giving it beans anyway....I am the cycling muppet today.

Still, I might redeem myself on way home...I am a hill god!!

It is weird how one day you can be flying along and the next, uhh, not. I'm careful with my diet and run and ride every day, careful not to be over-training, and careful to eat sufficient. But still my 'performance' can vary, and I can feel like a dead duck at the start of a ride, but within a short while, things are OK. As that cr@p singer said..'I am not a robot'

much the same as everyone else - good days, bad days, mainly the latter, for the same reasons as everyone else

There are rides though when everything just flows, right lines, right speed, right choices -I live for those days...

...and then I'll go beyond my capabilities, or lose concentration, and have an off.

When i said "you", i was generalising, what i should have said is "if a rider feels like they are going to crash any second in wet conditions, something isn't right". Though it seems to me that you know exactly what I'm saying, you're just being a pedant... It's not as if i was making some complicated point.

Wet conditions + wet tyres = happy rider.
Wet conditions + dry tyres = rider on floor.

Its psycological anyways, this i know. I just tense up in the wet and ride like a baby. I'll sort it this winter don't you worry

but FYI, I've got Specialized Eskar on the front with Specialized Captain control on the back, running at about 35psi when its a bit wet.

Mojo comes and goes. Whilst I find that I am definitely more "on the ball" in terms of riding skills on some days, my fitness and power fluctuate far more wildly.

Also, it seems that when I have one of those rides that go perfectly, where the flow is perfect, and the speed just keeps building up and up, the very next ride, I crash

    This :?

Prime example, a few weeks ago in Afan.... Super day on Saturday, fast, overtaking lots of riders, cleared everything blah blah. First thing Sunday, clipped my bars on a random rock (going slowly uphill :? ) and ended up half way down a hill mangled with my bike wondering what the feck just happened

    Hey ho

  • I had a bad fall a month ago broke a rib screwed my ankle up and none of it was my fault, I was hit, Gave myself 3 weeks healing time for the rib, went for a ride last week, doing some drop off's had a panic moment at the last second went over the bars hitting my already broken rib in the process and landed in a nice patch of nettles.

I thought that this was it for me and me and bike don't mix but I am going on a ride tomorrow to try and build that confidence back up and put the past behind me, it is all in the head.

Best thing I found was I have no memory of the crash, so it didn't bother me getting back on the bike once healed up. I'm feeling now I'm being a little more aggressive on things than I used to as well.
  • I find it comes and goes - some days I can thread it together pretty well and get a nice flow going, other days (like this morning - I bottled it going down some log steps and stacked it) I'm a complete tool...

I soon as I realise i'm having a 'complete tool' day i'll tone it down and just turn it into a nice plod through the woods....

I've made a few upgrades to my bike recently (new wheels, new fork) and am much more confident on it now... which is purely psychological....
  • i have a lot of ups and downs when im out , i start off well then about 20/30 min later i'll come to something then cock it up then my confidence goes but then i will suprise myself and im good again for a bit. im putting it down to my still being a newbie and i cant wait until i can attack a trail and do it for the full duration.

I genuinly forgot how to ride a bike, halfway down yoghurt pots in the Surrey Hills, hands slipped off, faceplanted into the handlebars, held it together for a couple of metres before hitting a tree.
  • I'm a Trainee Riding God, not got there yet but willing to learn and fall off along the way, dislocated my elbow 2 weeks ago, but it hasn't phased me, I'm still going to go out tomorrow and hit it as hard as I can. Bones heal, Chicks dig scars, Glory lasts forever.

I am without doubt absolute rubbish!!! Especially after yesterdays showing, riding to work through the local park on tarmac, nice gentle down slope, not too fast a quick left and right near to the bottom round a kind of roundabout and completely lose the front wheel on the damp surface and slipper leaves resulting in a big off, cut elbow, bruised back and grazed posterior, plus dinted rear mech, scuffed grips, broken rear light and broken ruck sac. Prat.

Honestly, i seam to go a lot faster than my mates, but i also fall off a lot more, i seam to attempt all the harder stuff that my mates bottle, but i fall off more.

I have felt pretty crap since i dislocated the shoulder though, i feel down on power, stamina and balls, hopefully it comes back in due course.

I really had no fear at all of crashing the bike until i buggered the shoulder, now i seam to be over analysing everything and its making me slower :(

  • Yup shoulder dislocations hurt. I've not been the same rider since doing mine at easter. Worst of all it was on my road bike, slipping on diesel on the entrance to our road. Still hurts now and made me very very careful on the trails.
