Well both are quintessentially English and have been knighted, so the queen seems to think they are worthy of something. I'm going to stick with my votes

SO not really a National Treasure then... Just an English one? - where's my ketchup..

I thought England was a nation, or are we only allowed to be British? Feel free to do Scottish National Treasures if you wish. Or Welsh, Irish etc.....

Serious question: Did David Attenborough actually create/commission/etc all the wildlife stuff or was he a simple voice over at the end?

Stephen Fry? What's that all about? Isn't he just an advert junky.

Not that I'm suggesting them, but if you asked foreigners what they think right now, I reckon you'd get:
    - Beckham
    - Simon Cowell
    - The Queen
    - JK Rowling
    - Adele
    .... or something like that.

Without D?A most of us would have never even seen half the wildlife that is out there - the guy is a broadcasting legend - he not only narates but educates and his enthusiasm is second to none

He's very much the lead man on most his programmes and writes them too. (Although for some he's just the narrator). He's primarily a producer. He was Controller of BBC2 (commissioning amongst other things, Monty Python) and Director of Programming in the 60s.

Agree, but just wondering how much of the effort was his?

Is there someone who studied all their life, sat in a forest for months to get the pictures, then months in a room editing and writing the documentaries ... for DA to come along and do a couple of hours of narration and take all the credit?

.... or does he have a larger input?

DA gave up his desk job as a controller at the BBC to go back into the field and make the films that he became famous for. So far as a BBC docu last year depcited film crews down the years paid huge respect to him and his contribution.

Have a read of Attenborough's autobiography Life On Air. He has seen and done pretty much everything a person could see and do in one lifetime, and done it all with immense dignity and kindness.

    The man is a hero.
