Garmin Ant+ usb2 / Powertap: not playing nicely

Hi,
I've just received a Garmin Ant+ stick which has 'USB2' written on the back.
I can't get it to pair with my Powertap or my Garmin cadence sensor.
Anyone know how to get over this annoying hurdle?
Thanks,
Andy

Funny I was doing the same thing today and I couldn't get it to pair either USB2 also.0

thought the usb stick only worked with the garmin forerunner?0
-
Apparently not, see the 4th post in http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... highlight=0

What are you doing exactly? If you are running Golden Cheetah v3 then it should detect your PowerTap (don't think it'll pair with the GSC-10, but then you can get speed and cadence from the PowerTap so why would you need it?).
From memory all I had to do was run the realtime mode in GC v3, wake the hub up and after a minute or so the hub was detected.
If you're doing this and it doesn't work then I'm afraid I can't help.More problems but still living....0 -
I did that and it didn't work so I installed the Garmin ANT Agent as I thought maybe I needed to do that but that made no difference either. It just times out.0
-
Ditto, when I try to get my Powertap hub and Golden Cheetah to pair, nothing happens. Garmin USB stick has drivers in place, but apart from that, nothing happens.
The Garmin Ant+ Agent is forever searching for devices but finds nothing.
I even tried setting up the virtua; machoine with quarqd but that didn't help.
Goes without saying that Garmin's site provided no info.
I will continue my investigations.0 -
Garmin Ant agent will only find certain devices. I have a Forerunner 310xt which will pair with the Ant agent, but my Edge 500 won't. I doubt that Garmin Ant agent would pair with a PowerTap.More problems but still living....0

Couple of things. First, my Garmin ANT+ stick is the usb-1 so maybe the usb-2 doesn't work? Also, I think I remember having to exit Garmin ANT agent for the realtime mode to work.
Having said that though, I can't actually get GC to pair with my PowerTap now either!More problems but still living....0 -
Right I just got it to pair. The only things I did differently this time were to exit Garmin ANT agent and I also specified the device in the profile field - the device ID (taken from my Garmin) is 7492 so I put 7492p in the device profile field. If you have the ID for your HRM and GSC-10 I think you can do the same (****h for HRM, not sure for the GSC-10). So for power and HR you'd put ****p, ****h.
When I clicked pair it didn't actually do anything differently to before, but then when I went back to the realtime view and pressed start it worked.
So it should work for the Garmin usb-1 stick, but I have read bits on the GC Google group that suggests there were issue with drivers for the usb-2 stick and I'm not sure if this has been resolved.
I'm sure if Liversedge is still posting on the forum he'll clear it all up as he's one of the main GC developers I think.More problems but still living....0 -

Version: 201119_v3dev_Commit_1c7a8b5
Build date: Mar 21 2011 11:11:09
Running it on a Windows 7 netbook.
To get the start/stop and other control buttons you need to click on the 'Controls' tab on the right hand side.More problems but still living....0 -
Looks like this:

OK I've got the start buttons now. They are moved to the left now and under chart settings.
I presume the device id is the hub id in which I case I have taken this from the the lyc and it is 39581 in my case:
and here's the device setup in GC:
When I hit pair it doesn't do anything. I presume it should say that it is paired successfully. If I go to realtime mode and hit the start button it does nothing.0 -
BTW that is one ugly solution for starting realtime mode. Why in God's name is it hidden in menu as I presume anybody that wants to use it has to hit that button in which case it should be right up front. I just presumed it must have autostarted saying as I couldn't see the option to start it.0

Which version of GC are you running? Is that on a Mac?
When I click pair I get a progress bar that counts up to 100%, but it doesn't actually indicate that anything has been found. I only know its worked because when I then press start the timer starts counting and if I pedal I get power, cadence , etc. When I press start without my PT being paired I get an error message.
I agree though - its not exactly a user friendly interface. I've also tried the latest v3 build, but it's really, really horrible and crashes when you try to add charts to the view page. It looks okay on a 32" monitor, but on a laptop its really a big step backwards IMO.More problems but still living....0 -
It's on windows 7 ultimate. I'm running GC version GC_v3dev_Commit_14c1d77 with a build date of Aug 11 2011 09:25:05. I prefer the way your version is displayed. There must be options where I can all those extra numbers that you are able to get and the background is more interesting in your version.0

I thought it must have been one of the early versions cos it looks so crap! Do you get crashes when you try to add charts to the display? Crashes with me on Windows 7 Basic and XP. The other problem I have is that when I add notes to rides and save it, all the ride data gets set to zero. I still use v2 really - I only bother with v3 so I can see NP and I'll possibly use the realtime stuff when winter comes and I start using the turbo again.
Unless there are other features in the latest build that aren't in the earlier build that you want then why not just install the March build?More problems but still living....0 -
No this is the first build that doesn't suffer the chart adding problem. I never had noticed the notes problem. I've just checked and you can add a note and save and all the ride data is in the ride summary so looks to be sorted.
I was just trying out the feature so I'm not too bothered about downgrading for just that though would like to be assured that is working come the winter.
I have all my stuff in WKO+, Saris Poweragent, GCv2, GCv3, Polar Precision, Sportstracklive and Endomondo though the complete sets of data are WKO+, Poweragent and Polar as there are lots of estimated TSS at various points as I've had a very bad time with my powertap not working properly and GC didn't allow me to add TSS to v2 and I wasn't familiar enough with the Skiba measurements to make educated guesses of xPower.0 -
Doyler78, how did you get to this?
And amaferanga, you came up with the reference 7492p etc - how did you come by them?0 -
It will be on the lyc or in the poweragent software. That screenshot is from the powertap poweragent software. Easier than cycling the screens on the lyc trying to find which one its on but you will need a lyc to get it with my approach.
By the wound of it the Garmin computers can give you the same info as I believe thats what amaferanga said he got his from.0 -
If you go to the calibration screen on your Garmin it should display the device ID (it does on the Edge 500 and Forerunner 301xt). You shouldn't really need to put the device ID in though - GC should get that from the power meter.More problems but still living....0

With Native ANT+ the pair button doesn't do anything -- just press start and it will detect all the ant+ devices it can.
And yeah, the UI is a bit wonky at the moment in v3, I need to give realtime a bit more love.--
Obsessed is just a word elephants use to describe the dedicated. http://markliversedge.blogspot.com0 -
I suspect that my USB2 stick is the problem. (Almost) all that I read about this suggests that USB2 is not yet supported...?
The UI is fine!0 -
USB2 is supported in the latest build on Windows. Your screenshots suggest you have quite an old version.--
