  • Are you allowed to ride a tanddem then? I would have thought that the powers at be would have banned them.

Banned them Tandems, dem dry bones now here's what I say...

After close scrutiny of UCI rules by a panel of legal experts (people who are no longer practicing perts) a report has been published which confirms that, "...provided the tandem conforms to UCI rules in all respects it shall be deemed legal..."
However the report goes on to say, ".. but God help the buggers if more than one person (either sequentially or simultaneously) has been spotted riding the tandem..."

The punishments for breaking this rule have been cribbed from the anti-doping sections of their rules and provide for, "....a good stiff finger-wagging telling off or (in extreme cases) three weeks suspension (aka paid holiday) for the rider(s) and a life ban for the team doctor(s)

The rules also state that "...if a British cyclist should break any record while legally riding a tandem then the UCI will strip the rider of that record and hand it back to the more deserving non-British rider who previously held it...."

    Hope this helps

... So now perhaps we can move on to more serious matters.

Has anyone got any cake to spare?
  • I have a left over flapjack ( are they cakes?) from about a week ago some where around here.

I was thinking more along the lines of chocolate gateaux from a high class patisserie. Earlier this evening I had an excellent meal of fresh-water fish, followed by helva and helped down with some nicely chilled sauvignon blanc and coffee to finish. A little later I had some fresh walnuts, grapes and peaches (all from the garden). I am not sure if my taste buds could survive the shock of flapjacks after being treated so well for the rest of the day. (I also had a nice meal in a restaurant at lunchtime).

However please don't think I do not appreciate the offer....
  • Is a Fig Roll a buscuit, a cake? or other?

It is in the same category as flapjacks (see above)

Flapjack is deffinately a cake, just that if somebody said what cake would you like? you deffinately wouldnt say flapjack. but a fig roll, well thats another story entirely.

Figs (Izmir figs please) should be eaten fresh, ripe, raw and definitely not rolled.
  • sausages.
Sorry - that is most definitely not cake or biscuit but 'other'

But it can be rolled, unlike fig.

Although I will accept that technically, neither are cakes.

It was never my intention to put cake in my pocket - I have a much better receptacle for cake

    1) My contact at UCI (Union Cake International) tells me that under rule 15 para vii sub -section iii these are both classed as honorary cakes in that they may be consumed as acceptable alternatives to cake - but they are not allowed to win races.

I find this to be the sort of compromise I am prepared to accept :D

The issue with lack of cream is a cake fettling problem which is easily resolved by following the instructions.

    1) Get a (large) portion of (heated) strudel.
    2) Open it with a knife
    3) Insert (large) portion of cream

If you are not clear what to do after my instructions then it is best to leave the remaining task to a professional. Simply give me the cream endowed strudel and I will deal with it as I have lots of qualifications, experience and endorsements in this field. (Being a fully qualified pig and greedy beggar) :D

It can be rolled if it is round but many sausages I encounter these days seem to be square. (probably due to an EU regulation). Either way I was more in need of carbohydrate (as found in cake) than whatever it is they have found to put in sausages this week days. (inedible kangaroo, sawdust a full set of E numbers......)

You are duly nominated for the National Bravery Awards on two counts:
    1) Eating flapjacks of unknown parentage.
    2) Admitting same to parent once known. (More people have died doing this than have perished attempting to rescue drowning pets).

The best apple Strudel I has was in Southport, in a wine bar called the Grape escape. I only ever went in it during the day when it was more of a coffee bar. It is long gone now Waterstones replaced it years ago.
