Hotels in Mallorca

Hello all,
Mallorca looks like a great place to go cycling and escape the gloom here in Scotland.
However, I'm totally lost as to where and what hotel I should base myself.
Had a look on the a web and just too much choice. I've never been and am totally lost.
Previous forums posts suggest Pollensa/Alcuida in the north east.
Are these areas lively without being mad at night ? All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy !
Any guidance & suggestions so I can narrow down the choices will be gratefully accepted.
Tks...

You're right, Majorca is a great place to escape winter doom and gloom, I went for 2 weeks at the end of April and at that point it was beginning to get too hot for cycling. Most people tend to head to the south of france or northern spain over the summer as its too hot further south.
The north of Majorca is pretty flat, most of the mountains are in the west, up to 7km long at an average of somewhere between 4 and 7%. I stayed somewhere in Palmanova (ponent mar) I think. They had a bike garage and Stephen Roche runs winter training camp from there...0 -
If you want to be in/close the mountains, I recommend staying in Soller/Puerto de Soller. Beautiful part of Majorca, enough bars and restaurants, but without the noisy crowds associated with certain other parts. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and picturesque villages. However, if you prefer the flatter NE, stay in Pollensa, not Alcudia! Nice ride to Formentor. Also, I would recommend getting yourself a nice villa/apartment. Have a search around on the internet for privately owned places - there are some stunning properties and cheaper than staying in a hotel.0

+1 on that.
They allow bikes in the apartments, have an onsite bike shop which is well stocked and knowledgeable and the facilities are top notch. Think Club de Santa in lanzarote, but without the tired and knackered decor.
From Polencia you can go north east for a short climb up to Cap de Formentor, or go south and east for a flatish TT / recovery course or go north west for a long climbing route and take in Sa Calobra (awesome switchbacky climbs, stunning) or Col De Soller a fast descent and good solid climb thats good for a FTP test
Wouldn't bother looking anywhere else, its mega popular with tri/cyclists and feels like home the moment you get there.

Hi
Seeing as I live here and cycle pretty much every day I can offer some help. I live in the north of the island and you will want to be up north ideally. As suggested pollenca is good alcudia also as good and another that is popular is a placed called Muro (very german) but anywhere out of those 3 are excellent and by bike they are all within 15 mins. I rode all over the mountains today and have to say so far today was too hot. I managed 88 miles over the mountains and it was tough going. So many routes wouldnt know where to start but I have all mine plotted on my garmin and i have done 6500 miles here in the last 10 months so i know a few good routes haha. Im out all day tomorrow too and the forcast is 92 degrees so fair to say the cycling tan is coming on. Do come here for cycling as its excellent stay away from the tourist places in the south cheap and nasty with crap roads and too many cars. You will see many many cyclists here everywhere although early spring and early winter are most popular I wouldnt come here at the moment unless your really desperate for soem sun as it would be overkill comeing from scotland. sept is better but can be very wet. I know a guy from here that stayed in a hotel in pollecia and has been there 3 or 4 times and always gets good reviews and its called the hotel daina its 2 min walk from cycle hire places too. If you want any routes once you have booked let me know. jeff0 -
Could not agree more with the comments about Club Pollentia.
Visited in April and found the place to be excellent. Really bike and tri orientated and a great mix of people (mix of Brit's / Spanish / German and Italians)
I went with my non cyclist missus and she was content that the wine on the all inclusve was good and she could get a quick bus to either Porto Pollensa or Alcudia and i could meet her for lunch.
Facilities at the hotel are good and the rides from the area are plentiful and varied.
By the way don't goif you want a big party holiday though
Lee.I like shiny bikes - especially Italian ones.....!!0 -
Anyone stayed at the hotel daina?
i cannot see a half board or all inclusive option. Interested to know if they serve good food-its a deal breaker!0
