Stupid places to leave your bike.

I was out for a ride tonight, nothing too exciting, apart from on a certain decent, I came across a couple of chaps doing some sort of repair. One had laid his bike entirely blocking most of the trail. Its a fast section. I was doing about 30mph, scroll to 1 min, isn't that a daft place to lay your bike or am I being over picky?

  • Daft yes.... still room to get through but the bike should have been out of the way and off the path.

BTW... do you have a vibrating lime or have you trapped a bee somewhere?? what the hell is that buzzing!

I think its my phone causing some interference. I was listening to music earlier and just pull the headphones out of my ears for the tricky bits.

edit, just googled it its due to running the cam when the batter is low power.

Should have rode over his wheels.
Who was your weenie friend who bottled it on the roll at the beginning of BKB?

ah bless he's ridden it before, he just has a mental block on BKB. He's more in to long distance stuff. We only went to holmbury because of my new toy. Plus I wanted to see how the stumpy frame compared with the enduro.

    I'm missing the enduro.

That is fire-road riding, you should be ashamed of yourself complaining of those numpties. Not impressed with all parties involved.

Its a bridleway and I stopped with plenty to spare.
  • I dont understand what diy has done wrong. Hows he a numpty?! Am I missing something?
It was very carelessof the guys nearly blocking the route tho, hopefully they just didnt realise what they had done! At least it wasnt fast singletrack decent!

I think popstar was objecting to my possibly defamatory comment in the description of the video. I have modified it, just in case the individuals can be identified.

In all honesty, you expect to find numpties like that leaving objects on the roads. To them it's just another wide big road, it's not only cyclists though so plenty of walkers could have a picknick or an intimate XXX there.

I have seen people rest in the middle of fast singletrack ... and that's a problem in my eyes. Doing maintenance in the middle of singletrack is half bad, but no bloody rest on it?!

But there is a [shocker] to reveal, many cyclist numpties like that simply don't realise of daft things they do on trails so bastids should be pointed at and be told of their wrongdoings. They might be just noobz who just started cycling without knowing a proper etiquette.

Surely there's a better more exciting route down than that?

'tis that time of year unfortunately.

The other night me and a couple of other lads had to pick our way past a father-daughter-son combo on Follow The Dog. The lad had his own little bike but the daughter (aged 4 or 5) was in one of those plastic child seats on the back of dad's bike

I think doing a repair on the fire road is ok , if it was on a section of single track it would be dangerous and outright mad.

Can't see YouTube at work, but where near BKB, is there a descent you can do 30mph on?!

it is for sharing but taking you're kid on a plastic seat on the back is a bit inconsiderate to other trail users isnt it?

Why? How is it any different to just some slow rider? How is it relevant that there's a child seat involved? Should people have to ride at a certain speed?

I often catch people on the trails, but I acknowledge they have every right to be there!

No objection to sharing the trails with anyone.

My point was that taking two small children, one of which was in a child seat, on a red-graded MTB route is not the smartest thing to do like the OP about fixing your bike in the middle of the trail.

Apologies if my post was confusing.

i've had the picture thing, guy had stopped to take a picture of his mate and walked up to near a little drop to get him going over it leaving his bike blocking the trail 10m further down.

matey then stops next to him, so after narrowly missing those two i then ended up going off piste to avoid the bike!

OT i'm thinking about getting a child seat for my 18 mnth son, nd whilst i probably wouldent take him down anything remotely technical wonder if they are ok for off-road (towpaths, fireroads, blues etc) or will his lil spine be shaken to bits :(

The seats which mount to the seat tube are fairly bouncy so little-un will be just fine - avoid the dropoffs though!

I would also recommend one which reclines cos the yound uns do have a tendancy to fall asleep very quickly.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

My mate picked a bad spot to park his bike and watch me ride (badly) down the drop offs at Lee Quarry http://vimeo.com/21398681
  • The most dangerous 'trail blocking' I have seen is when I was riding down the slope besides the 4x at Chicksands. A father out for a walk was with two very young children playing on one of the jumps. I had just seen two guys climbing the starting slope wearing some body armour with pretty serious bikes... I had horrible visions of what might happen next.

I told the guy that it was nothing to do with me as I was not riding there, but any minute a couple of bikes would come belting down the track at high speed.

He was perfectly reasonable and began to gather up the kids, but it worried me to think of what could have happened! :-o

Th eonly thing I see wrong was the rider who made the video not stopping to lend a hand.
